  • Movieing On #249: Thoroughly Modern Millie

    07/08/2017 Duration: 01h08min

Sorry for the absence, folks! Between computer issues, travel and the generic mid-summer malaise that hits you when you have no job to go to, we decided that a week or two off was just what the doctor ordered. But now we're back! • Movieing On #248: DuckTales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp

    17/07/2017 Duration: 45min

For the first time in a very long time, the Movieing On team sits down in front of a duck-themed movie that is not perverted. A cartoon that is not about overly sexualized cats. Please don't mention how it was Breki that picked both Howard the Duck and Fritz The Cat and how we required the youth and innocence of Linnea to get a movie like this to the show... Because we sat down to watch Duck Tales: The Movie. • Movieing On #247: Highlander

    10/07/2017 Duration: 01h04min

Once upon a time, there was a movie. It didn't do very well, but people remembered it fondly, so they made a sequel. It was pretty bad. So they made another sequel, and it was also pretty bad. People looked upon the faces of the sequels and realized that the original movie was actually really pretty damned good - at least in comparison - and so a cult movie was born. This week, the Movieing On team sits down to watch Highlander, the 1986 original starring Christopher Lambert with a not very convincing Scottish accent starring opposite Sean Connery with a not very convincing Spanish accent in a not very convincing movie about people who cannot die. ... It's better than I make it sound, actually. • Movieing On #246: Miss Firecracker

    03/07/2017 Duration: 41min

It's the birthday of America, so what better movie to pick than a movie that features that very holiday season in one way or another? We thought so as well, so we went with Miss Firecracker, a lovely Holly Hunter-movie from 1989. • Movieing On #245: The Man Who Would be King

    26/06/2017 Duration: 46min

The Man Who Would Be King (1888) is a short story by Rudyard Kipling. It is about two British adventurers in British India who become kings of Kafiristan, a remote part of Afghanistan. It's also a movie starring Sean Connery and Michael Caine. We decided to watch the movie even though reading the short story would have been quicker. We're strange in that way. • Movieing On #244: Playtime

    12/06/2017 Duration: 56min

Playtime is a ... movie? ... from 1967, written and directed by Jacques Tati. It's about ... about ... it's about two hours long, and ... No, I'm sorry, I really don't know what more to say about this. It's hardly a movie, even. I don't ... no. • Movieing On #243: Nikita

    05/06/2017 Duration: 42min

La Femme Nikita, the 1990 version, not to be confused with the American spin-offs with the same name that came much later. It was one of the movies that got Luc Besson the attention that he was going to be enjoying in the future. But it's also a movie that not all people can agree about - so ... did we like it or dit we not? Listen in and find out! Show notes and links: La Femme Nikita (1990) - IMDb (imdb.com)

  • Movieing On #242: The Man who Haunted Himself

    30/05/2017 Duration: 47min

Have you ever felt as if you're not living an entire life? Ever had people say you've done things you're quite sure you've never done? Well; Roger Moore has. At least - he's played a role of a person who has. And this is that movie! Show notes and links: The Man Who Haunted Himself (1970) (imdb.com)

  • Movieing On #241: Richie Rich

    23/05/2017 Duration: 49min

One would have thought that the richest kid in the world would have afforded a better acting coach, but there you go. Here's the 1994 movie where Kevin from Home Alone gets help from Joseph Goebbels (no, really!) as they try to out-wit Maltz from Star Trek III: The Search for Spock. It rapidly got more and more confusing, especially when Friar Tuck from Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves showed up to help out with gadgets that he built in the lab. Very strange. • Movieing On #240: The Adventures of Baron Munchausen

    15/05/2017 Duration: 01h02min

This week's episode of Movieing On brings us back to 1988, an era in which men would fly hot air balloons constructed of knickers to the moon and have a surreal moment involving the king and queen of said Moon and their marital problems and their head-not-being-attached-to-their-bodies-well-kind-of-but-not-really ... situation. That's right; we're doing the 1988 cult classic, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen! Show notes and links: 7 Witches (2017) - IMDb (imdb.com) Nancy was in a movie! • Movieing On #239: Enemy of the State

    08/05/2017 Duration: 53min

I'd like to talk to you about the movie we've seen for this week, but since you already have spying equipment installed in my apartment, you probably already know everything I'm going to say. Hell; you probably know me better than I know myself at this point. Scary. Show notes and links: Enemy of the State (1998) (imdb.com)

  • Movieing On #238: Breaking Glass

    01/05/2017 Duration: 01h01min

This week, we go back to the Winter of our Discontent, checking in with an up-and coming artist who we all know is going to make it big. Only ... once she does, things don't always turn out the way she had hoped. It's one many "rise and fall"-themed movies that have been made, but it's definitely a cut above the rest. • Movieing On #237: Repo Man

    24/04/2017 Duration: 56min

It's a blast from the past, we're going back to 1984 to discuss a movie that couldn't be more 80s even if it had a soundtrack by Cyndi Lauper and Men at Work ... Which, I just remembered, is another movie starring Emilio Estevez. Funny how that works out sometimes, isn't it? • Movieing On #236: The Thing From Another World

    17/04/2017 Duration: 01h06min

1951 was an important year in so many ways. I can't think of anything special that stands out right now, but I'm sure there are things. This movie, for example! This movie was an important thing that happened in 1951. Show notes and links: The Thing from Another World (1951) (imdb.com) Dreams (1990) - IMDb (imdb.com)

  • Movieing On #235: Blow-Up

    10/04/2017 Duration: 42min

Nietzsche said that "if you stare into the abyss, the abyss stares back at you". By that logic, if you blow up a photograph enough, the photograph will blow you up, too. At least, that's what I'm taking away from this movie ... I think. I'm going to have to zoom in on a couple of frames of the movie to be abolutely sure. I think. Maybe. • Movieing On #234: The Cabin in the Woods

    05/04/2017 Duration: 56min

On April 2nd, 2012, CSICON released the very first episode of a new podcast series named Movieing On. Today, five years later, we look back at the movies that were released on around that early April and picked one of them to talk about. For that reason, we're breaking the 1999-or-earlier routine and dedicating this week's episode to a discussion of Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard's The Cabin in the Woods. • Movieing On #233: Yellowbeard

    27/03/2017 Duration: 48min

If you take the best of British late-70s comedy and combine it with a retro stoner comedy duo from the American 80s, then throw in just a sprinkle of ... well, anything else you can find, by the looks of it, really; then you get Yellowbeard, the movie that killed comedy. • Movieing On #232: Dick

    20/03/2017 Duration: 44min

In a movie not well named for the "find it on Pirate Bay"-generation, we follow a story that is equal parts Forrest Gump, All the President's Men, Clueless and ... something that's not nearly as good as any of those. • Movieing On #231: The Changeling

    13/03/2017 Duration: 51min

"A man moves to a house that turns out to be haunted" is a movie idea as old as time, but describing this movie in this way is to do it a disservice; the movie is so much more. Show notes and links: The Changeling (1980) - IMDb (imdb.com)

  • Movieing On #230: Howard the Duck

    06/03/2017 Duration: 59min

Linnea said it best; this movie is <Quack!>ing weird. That's about it. We can be thankful to this movie for having given us the conditions that led to Pixar being Pixar - it's a convoluted story but it all boils down to this very movie - ... but that's about it.
