Synopsis

We live in interesting times. Our Geeks, Geezers and Googlization Podcast shares interviews with many of the most fascinating and successful industry thought leaders about managing the convergence of the wired, tired, and technology. Topics include tips on managing disruptive workforce trends and how companies can recruit faster, hire smarter, and retain employees longer. A favorite subject will be the Millennial Generation and managing the multi-generation workforce. So what is Googlization and what does it have to do with managing people? Technology is being introduced at an accelerating pace. .It is disrupting and changing the way we work. The definition of work itself is evolving and the skills required to do them are more advanced. At the same time, the melting pot of 5 generations Veterans, Baby Boomers., Generation X, Millennials, and Generation Z poses an unprecedented challenge for managers. And because Millennials will soon make up nearly 75% of the workforce, many of the episodes will address the best ways to attract and engage them. But other topics will include recruiting strategies and hiring trends as well as best practices for talent acquisition, leadership development, and employee retention. Our goal with each episode is to provoke conversation and challenge the status quo. We wont leave any stones unturned in our search for best practices of talent management. We hope youll accept our invitation to subscribe to our podcast, share the content, suggest future topics, and join the conversation.

  • GGG Unleashed with Paul McCarthy: The FIRED Leader, My Personal Story

    13/12/2022 Duration: 11min

Publicly, organizations state they want leaders to be innovative “out-of-the-box” thinkers who “challenge the status quo.” Privately, conventional leadership culture wants nothing of the sort. Leaders deemed as malcontents or “a bad culture fit” quickly find themselves marginalized, ostracized, and even exercised. The qualities that get them hired are the ones that get them fired. Yet, these rebels and nonconformists often embody the very leadership qualities organizations so desperately need to navigate disruption and adapt to the “new normal” of constant change. Along the way you’ll learn: We are firing leaders who have the qualities needed to navigate ongoing disruption Leaders aren't being developed the way they NEED and want Organizations with disruptive leadership outperform others over 4X Additional Resources: Paul’s Website: https://www.paulmacleadership.com/ Connect on LI: https://www.linkedin.com/in/paulmacleadership/ Global Leadership Forecast 2018: https://www.ddiworld.com/glf2018/leadership-st

  • Unlock the Power of the Human Mind with Shawn Gulyas

    08/12/2022 Duration: 53min

Our minds are a beautiful thing. They’re also quite mysterious. There’s still so much we don’t understand about how our minds work and just like snowflakes - no two minds are alike. Yet this aspect of diversity is often overlooked when compared to the more traditional DEI frameworks such as the color of one’s skin, ethnicity, and sexual orientation, to name a few. Inside the walls of our organizations leaders continue to focus on team fit and culture fit, insidiously and unintentionally ensuring that everyone should think and act the same. Reframing these differences in how everyone thinks, processes information, learns and works can help us recapture them as strengths.  This episode with coach and consultant Shawn Gulyas of Humanworks8 on unlocking the power of the human mind is going to do just that.

  • Create Great Culture in a Remote World

    27/10/2022 Duration: 50min

The pandemic changed the way business is done forever. Once employees got a taste of working remotely and adjusted to a new lifestyle, there was little chance of getting workers back to the office on an everyday basis.  While more than 59% of workers are now more attracted to jobs that provide flexibility via remote work, nearly 6 out of 10 executives and business owners are pushing back and demanding workers return to the office. One common reason given by managers is that you can’t create a great culture with a remote workforce and workplace. Joining us for this episode are four of America’s top business coaches (Ira S Wolfe, Vanessa Hunter, Jennifer Marshall, and James Thorne) who will share tips on how to lead teams that thrive without being in person.

  • Humanizing Human Capital with Dr. Solange Charas and Stela Lupushor

    20/10/2022 Duration: 53min

HR doesn’t live in a vacuum. To help shape the future of work, it must connect the needs inside the business with the demands and consequences of an ever-changing environment. Continuous improvement is no longer enough. To respond to today’s Never Normal challenges, HR needs to not just improve but reinvent itself. Front and center are what distinguished authors and human capital strategists Solange Charas and Stela Lupushor call the four environmental D’s which will impact the four internal W’s (work, worker, workplace, worth). Much to the dismay of many leaders, success won’t happen if they focus just on workplace strategy. It’s about humanizing the approach to human capital. Join us for this provocative, disruptive, and robust conversation about how the valuation of human capital is quickly changing, outlined in their just released book: Humanizing Human Capital.

  • An Empathy SWAT Team at Work with Liesel Mertes

    08/10/2022 Duration: 51min

How effectively do your leaders and employees deal with a co-worker's grief, stress, and burnout? Do they respond as Fixit Frank, Silent Sam, Cheer-up Cheryl, or Buckup Bobby? With all the uncertainty, angst,  stress, and burnout permeating workplaces, maybe it’s time for an Empathy SWAT Team and an empathy toolkit too. Workplace Empathy Advocate Liesel Mertes and the founder of Handle with Care Consulting joins us with her team of empathy avatars to unlock the benefits of practicing empathy at work and how to get better at it. We are all first responders in our own way. Oftentimes, managers and co-workers are the first ones to see when something is wrong but aren’t the best equipped to deal with it. In a Never-Normal world with perpetual uncertainty, increasing angst, and an epidemic level of burnout, empathy matters. What needs to change? Who is responsible? Are some people just better suited to be empathic leaders? Can empathy be learned? What can leaders and HR do? What if all of us could be workplace fir
