In the first half of 2024, motor vehicle fatalities dropped by 3.2% compared to 2023, with declines across almost all categories, including pedestrians, bicyclists, and passenger vehicle occupants. However, motorcyclist fatalities rose by 1%, standing out as a rare increase alongside a similar rise for individuals over 65. This reflects a long-term trend where fatalities among motorcyclists, bicyclists, and pedestrians constitute a growing proportion of overall traffic deaths, while fatalities for occupants of cars and trucks decline.
