A year ago, when Paul Fenton called Kevin Fiala a "Gamebreaker" we all scratched our heads when we saw the tentative and skittish 22 year old produce very little for Minnesota. The Minnesota Wild almost traded Zach Parise, but at the end of the day, no one was moved on Feb 24. It's becoming more and more clear, that by next season, this roster will be significantly different. With the firing of Bruce Boudreau, and the words of Bill Guerin, it's becoming more and more clear that he has seen enough with certain players that he is willing to possibly begin something I would like to call "Controlled Tanking". I use this term, because of course with certain contracts, you can only do so much. Luckily the cupboards are no longer bare in the Minnesota Wild prospect pool.

When you evaluate trades this organization has made the last twenty years, and then you look at the deal new GM Bill Guerin made, this looks like someone that knows that he's doing. The Minnesota Wild had a pair of up and down games, getting crushed by a much better Boston team, and playing very competitively vs Chicago, in which Dumba ended his nearly three month long goal drought with the OT winner. The Minnesota Wild are falling like a man without a parachute of late, either flat not scoring, or watching other players skate right around them. The game vs Pittsburgh showed us another glimpse of where this team stands right now, against legit teams in this league. In a back and forth couple of games, Marcus Foligno stood very tall, scoring three goals and adding a pretty spectacular setup to Luke Kunin along the way. After an awesome win in Colorado, the Minnesota Wild struggled mightily vs the Islanders and Toronto. The Minnesota Wild went from borderline spectacular in Tampa Bay, to downright awful vs Carolina and Anaheim. Sure the Wild got a point against the Ducks, but there was no life what-so-ever for the first 28 minutes of that game. The Minnesota Wild are at the crossroads as a franchise, as GM Bill Guerin mulls over what to do with the roster for this season and beyond.
