Dr. John Brooks Slaughter is the former Director of the National Science Foundation, President of Occidental College, Chancellor of the University of Maryland, and is currently a Member of the National Academy of Engineering. He holds a joint appointment at the USC Viterbi School of Engineering and the Rossier School of Education. He is the first Black director of the NSF.
