Parenting Roundabout

Nicole is away this week, and Catherine and Terri are feeling the effects of having been away (read: a ton of extra work). So this week, we're talking, complaining and obsessing about jobs and work by revisiting, and updating, some past discussions on that topic. Today, we hop way back to 2018's "Career Check-In" and then check back in on how the work world is treating us today.

We can't really enter the imaginary worlds of our favorite movies, TV shows, and plays, but we could theoretically hang with the folks who make them happen. On today's Speed Round, we pick some entertainers we'd like to entertain us in person.

On this week's entertainment-themed Round 2, episodes 3 and 4 of Girls5Eva bring us more silliness as the girls finagle their way into a rap video and Summer must resist her parents' call for her to take a purity pledge in the wake of her divorce. Nicole's dog, Missy, passed away recently. Since she's been a presence on the podcast over the years, today's episode is all about Missy and her exploits. It won't be the same without her.

So someone throws, say, a PERFECTLY GOOD banana muffin into the trash, one you had planned to eat for breakfast, and it's in a SEALED BAG, and it's in the kitchen trash that got emptied not THAT long ago, and you can find it to fish it out, would it be THAT terrible to rescue it and slather it with butter and eat it? It wouldn't, would it? Would it?

​A Buzzfeed article obsessing about mom catchphrases [https://www.buzzfeed.com/alliehayes/reddit-moms-funny-catchphrases] naturally led us to do the same. At least one of us has upped her game by adding Broadway show tunes to her catchphrase repertoire.

Nicole's daughter received her diploma last week, and we compare and contrast with our other kids' experiences (past and future).

On a recent Speed Round, in the course of a different discussion, Catherine mentioned this question: "If someone paid you to travel the world for the next three years, would you go?" We thought that sounded like a Speed Round in its own right, and now here it is! Although come to think of it, we're not so interested in the offer, unless Nicole's demands are met, anyway.

On this week's Round 3, our complaint is with kids who suddenly need essentials like salt, black shoes, and Revolutionary War-era costumes at the eleventh hour. (And we have some suggested solutions for the business world.)

Terri recently found out that someone's been holding a grudge against her for more than a decade, so we obsessed about grudges we've held and been the target of. Turns our our memories can be pretty long too.

An article summarizing a blatant case of baby name stealing [https://www.sheknows.com/parenting/articles/2572726/stolen-baby-name-reddit/] got us complaining about the people involved in this situation, who really were awful to each other. But then one of us confessed to a milder instance of name... sharing, let's just say.
