This week, we check into a man, who worked his way onto an NFL roster, almost exclusively on the back of his ability to use his body, with reckless abandon, to take down, and preferably hurt, opposing players. Some cracks began to appear, while still playing. He attacked a reporter, and fought with coaches & teammates. But once he retired, the full impact that his physical style began to show, on his brain. A charge of twice firebombing a business associate & long time friend. He had an epic, and disturbing showdown with police, who wanted him top stop choking & hitting his wife, with a remote control. But they didn't much better luck, with the whole thing escalating from violence to a showdown! All of this, and the NFL thinks his brain is fine!! This week, we look into the life of a man, was in trouble since middle school, and kept a steady pace of police interaction, through pretty much his whole life, so far. He came from bad circumstances, being called "crusty" as a kid, but used basketball to overcome that situation, making himself an extremely wealthy man, in the process. All of that, and he never left his friends behind. Which sounds nice, unless your friends continue to beat, shoot, attack, street race, and be accused of even worse. He never quite understands that each arrest made it a little harder to believe that he was trying to change! This week, we check out the life of the man who inspired Sylvester Stallone to write the Rocky character. He came from the streets, liking a barroom brawl even more than a fight in the ring. In boxing, he was known mainly for two things, being the bloodiest fighter, maybe in boxing history, and getting a shot, out of nowhere, to fight Muhammad Ali, for the heavyweight championship of the world! Just like Rocky! He spends the rest of his life selling liquor, legally, and for a little while, selling cocaine, illegally. A federal investigation brings an end to that, but years later, he's in hot water, again, this time for being involved with memorabilia counterfeiting!! The crazy never stops with this guy! This week, we head under the mask, with a hockey goalie, who is a perfectionist, a hall of famer, and a huge drunk, who causes problems at hotels, and seems very willing to fight police officers. He was a hero, wherever he played, and that seems to be part of the problem, because even judges would tell him what a hero he was, while they were sentencing him. He persevered, though. All seemed set for a great career, and a good relationship with the community. The football didn't pan out quite like he thought, but the off the field violence does. Terrifying accounts of a very large, very drunk, very angry man, with a propensity for violence. This week, we race into disaster, with an Englishman, who went from managing a car dealership, to running his own champion race team. But racing is an expensive sport to maintain, he found that out, first hand. His solution? Smuggle huge amounts of cocaine, in your car parts, while returning from other countries. Just when you thought he learned his lesson, he is busted, in a sleazy way, a trunk full of coke, in a Holiday Inn parking lot! None of this keeps him from landing, and keeping, a prestigious job, and trying to act like an upstanding person, to anyone who will listen! His rise from teenaged murderer, to fighting Muhammad Ali for the heavyweight title is remarkable. But not as remarkable as the fact that he wasn't done getting arrested. Instead, he screwed up. A lot. He seems to have particular liking of guns, specifically carrying them, in places that he shouldn't, such as planes, or New York City. He beefed with rappers, hung out with celebrities, and always ended up in trouble. He even took part in a huge financial scheme with 18 other NBA players! This week, we look at a man who went from being a two time World Series champion, and the pride of his hometown, to being an embarrassment, to all concerned. His upbringing was one for the ages, complete with some things that not even we have heard about, before. His end in baseball came quickly, but his life of crime spans a good 20 years. Somehow, he thinks it's just fine to steal directly from his employers. He learns his lesson, then moves on to ripping off individuals, with some domestic disturbances, mixed in, including being stabbed by his wife, badly enough to have his stepson taken from them. He was known for his incredible physique, and also his incredible arrogance. It all came tumbling down, in a haze of pills, booze & steroids. From driving 167 MPH, to having a large stash of drugs found in his house, after an equally well known female wrestling star dies, in his condo. It gets even worse for him, after he is confined to a wheelchair, and had to struggle just to have some mobility.
