Anytime is the right time to get serious about your relationship with food, but for some reason, it's a timely topic during the Nov-Dec food fest we call "the holidays". Michele Happe began her work with addiction with Dr. Judi Hollis, a vanguard in the fields of alcohol addiction and food obsession. The Democrats now know why they lost and the goal is clear, they have to win back voters and get them to the polls.  They have 3 distinct choices to get there, or they can find some combination of them. One thing for sure, they need fresh faces in Congressional leaders.  The old guard has got to go.  Just as rural Americans voted for Trump, not so much what he said he was going to do, but just to send a message to America, something different is needed. We discuss this at length and debate why Tim Ryan should replace Nancy Pelosi.  Perhaps this floor speech from 2006 will convince you, he's the firebrand we need at this crucial time. There are many good opinion pieces being written in the near post-election days about the looming battle among GOP establishment, Conservative hardliners and shameless Trump lackey wannabes.  They're coming from both sides and they all strike a similar tone that doesn't bode well for Trump. Also in these post-election times, news sources are coming out of the woodwork. Russian hacking is epidemic and it's hard to tell truth from lies.   You'll get some good tips how to recognize it. We're back after a 3 week hiatus for our collective mental health.  In this last podcast before the election we make our predictions and discuss the constantly changing dynamics of what's now a surreal electoral situation. We're starting to turn a new corner and get into more cultural/social issues and put politics on the back burner.  Michele, our resident mental health professional, has been interested in the connection between poverty and mental illness.  We talk about how it's handled in other countries who make it a priority. Keeping up with Trump revelations is exhausting. By late October, he'll be caught whacking it outside a nunnery. There are not many places left for this thing to go that don't involve kids or cannibalism. We wait, miserably, for the dong shot.  ~Matt Taibbi This week is devoted solely to women's issues and how they have shaped the last weeks of the campaign from hell.

The VP debates turned out to be an event despite the major pundit predictions of a snooze-fest.  Who won is determined by your criteria preference being either style (Pence) or substance (Kaine).  As hurricane Matthew surges towards the U.S. no one seems to want to mention the climate change elephant in the room.  Lastly, after having written off Clinton in Ohio, she's back leading in some polls mostly because Trump can't keep his cake-hole shut and is making some blue collar voters think twice. Innocent until proven guilty is a protection for those tossed into the legal system.  This doesn't apply to political candidates vying for the most important job on the planet.  Money and favors have been the hot topic this week in the news.  What exactly did donors get or not get from giving money to the Clinton foundation is not the real problem.  The real problem is it opens the question "Was there any corruption".  This question should never have come up in the first place.   We discussed it at length.  What do you think? Another week passed with too much Trump mind numbing brain games.  We didn't discuss this at length, the trauma has taken it's toll on the team. In the search for solutions to our problems with democracy, we revisited our topic last week of jobs in the "gig" economy.  Yes! magazine has several great pieces on it in the current issue.   Read: As 9-to-5 Jobs Vanish, Look Who’s Reinventing the Working World.

Until people realize our economic system is based on a lucky few at the expense of everyone else, American families will continue to disintegrate.  We saw it happen when folks moved from Appalachia to what's now the Rust Belt and we see it today after those jobs have left and most new jobs don't pay a living wage. There is a way out and that's what we discuss this week on IMT.

Our most controversial and best discussion yet.  Since the 1950's America's families have faced major changes.  We've gone from the single family breadwinner to you can't work enough jobs to pay the bills. Today, August 2, Trump kicked a mom with a crying baby from his rally and then later joked about receiving a Purple Heart handed to him by a supporter.  This podcast borrows heaving from an article published July 32 on Salon by Chauncey Devega "Who wins? Trump and the GOP’s doctrine of fear vs. Hillary and the Democrats’ hopeful and progressive vision" It's time to give  up trying to figure out why people support Trump.  It's time to focus on getting him defeated soundly in November but doing all you can do to get all your friends and family to the polls/absentee ballot.   Trying to figure how these people feel about Trump is like trying to explain what love is.  Though, you might come closer if you approached it from the hate angle. Both conventions failed to mask the faces of discontent on their convention floors. Here's an editorial from Truthdig.org uncovering the facade painted by the DNC on a convention scarred from the beginning by yet another email scandal.  We also hear from Jim Hightower on what the unhappy voters on the left are doing, in conjunction with Republicans, Greens and Libertarians, as a result of The People's Summit held this summer in Chicago.

The drama of both conventions has played out kinda like we expected. Both parties are seeing members leave because they can't support the nominee.  What does this mean for the election? Michele, Bill and Chris go places you won't hear on the M$M.

Some folks can always get what they want, but how do they do it and why?  How do you set your boundaries?  How do you know if you even have boundaries?   Michele wanted to release some inner tension today because her mom scolded her for not using a wooden spoon to stir the sauce.  She explains the ways controllers get what they want and what you can do to keep from always having to give in. YOU MUST LISTEN TO THIS OR YOU ARE A BAD, BAD, PERSON! :-)  I kid, I kid!
