Synopsis

A podcast and community for creatives looking for an extra dose of bravery to get out there and do what they're called to do. Together we expose the threads of heroism behind the stories and people we love most.Singer/songwriter, teaching artist, and creative entrepreneur, Emily Ann Peterson, hosts guests who have stories of brave battles, creative solutions, courageous failures, dream-crushing constraints, knee-knocking fears, and innovative genius. Every week features the authors, musicians, artists, business owners, and other professionals who courageously pour themselves into their work. Every guest will flaunt the obstacles battled and the bravery required for their quiet victories and loud failures. Every episode holds conversations that unclothe the fears befriended (or banished) along our stories of bravery, quiet heroism, and all-out gutsy-ness. Some episodes will open the (sometimes) Pandora's box of constraints and dream-crushing realities. Perhaps by listening to others search for and find their bravery, we will all find our own. For that is what we need most: to know we are not alone.

  • 029: Growing Up in Foster Care & Busting the Myth of "The Starving Artist" with BRIDGETTE MAYER

    14/02/2017 Duration: 53min

You guys. Bridgette Mayer is here on the podcast today. If you're not in the visual art scene then she might not be on your radar. That is until today. To say Bridgette had a rough early childhood is an extreme understatement. She is a product of the New Jersey foster care system and has some horrifying stories to share about what that was like. Fortunately for her (and us) she was adopted by a wonderful family who helped to completely change the way her life has unfolded. In today's episode she and I talk about the role fear has played in her success. We talk about the importance of our decisions and attitude. She tells us a little about why her industry frustrated her and how she has strived to create a new version of it for herself and the artists she represents. We also get to talking about the myth and reality of "The Starving Artist" and how our mindset and asking the right questions play a role in how we can begin to do things uniquely. And if you're an artist (visual, musical, or otherwise) you'll want

Trigger Warning...Before we get into the show today, I want to make a special note that this episode has a myriad of triggers inside it. If you're listening to this with your kiddos, be prepared to have a serious conversation afterwards. Not only does it contain subject matter that isn't for all ages, but even as an adult I needed to take the rest of the afternoon off after stopping the recording. So please take this as a reminder to care for yourself and the people around you. Period, but especially as you listen to Marie's story.Marie Schaeller is an author from eastern Pennsylvania hoping to raise awareness of child sexual abuse in our communities and what we can do about it. Her first book is titled "Breaking the Chains of Silence" and is just one facet of these efforts to advocate for victims of this tragedy which unfortunately occurs in every community. In her own community, Marie has assisted in attempts to get the Pennsylvania House Bill 1947 passed. This bill would stop allowing predators to get a "ti

  • ps007: The Voices of The 2017 Women's March - Part 2

    03/02/2017 Duration: 13min

If you've been following my latest journey via email or Instagram, you'll know that am not in the Pacific Northwest, like I have been for the past 10 years. I am currently in Atlanta, GA on a several month-long sabbatical. I'm here taking care of my grandfather, spending time with my Southern branch of family, and finishing up my long-awaited and upcoming book and album. This is why on Saturday, January 21st I found myself walking the streets of Downtown Atlanta with about 63,000 other people. We were all participating in the Women's March. Over 600 cities around the world held similar marches spanning in numbers from tens of people to just under one million people. The final tally of numbers are still rolling in as I'm recording this.If you're a long-time listener of the show, you'll know that sometimes I publish bonus episodes alongside our weekly interview episodes. I like to call these bonus episodes "Peep Shows" because they're a peep behind the curtain of the kind of bravery I'm personally encountering
