  • Farmers can now help improve green on green technology

    On this edition of the podcast, we're looking at how farmers can now actively become citizen scientists by improving weed recognition for machine learning.  University of Sydney Precision Weed Control PhD student, Guy Coleman earlier this year, along with Dr Michael Walsh hosted a workshop on weed recognition and machine learning in Wagga Wagga. Guy walks us through the key learnings presented at this workshop and also reveals details about a new open source weed locator his team is releasing.We'll also be hearing from West Wimmera Farmer, Sam  Eastwood, who is particularly keen on managing weeds in non-cropped and unproductive areas of the farm.   • Benefits of continuous spraying when weeds are small + Terrad'or explainer

    On this podcast we’re looking at good spraying practice with WA farmer Tim Critch and getting an explainer on Nufarm's new Group G herbicide, Terrad'or.Back in February and March of 2020 Tim had some summer rain and decided to look at the weeds not the temperature. If the weeds weren’t moisture stressed he kept spraying all day even when it was hot. He had some great results which we’ll get into in this podcast.     In this podcast we’re focusing on getting spraying right and new green-on-green autonomous spray technology! We’ve been following the innovative developments in the green-on-green space at WeedSmart quite closely, so we were excited to see Bilberry, SwarmFarm and Goldacres had teamed up to deliver some new autonomous spraying technology. So, in light of this, we caught up with Goldacres technical guru, David Tuppen who recently commissioned a fully autonomous sprayer with green-on-green weed detection using a SwarmBot robot and Goldacres Prairie Special trailing sprayer. We also hear from grower Broden Holland, who is based in Thuddungra, near Young in NSW. Broden is a keen precision ag farmer who has just updated to a G6 Crop Cruiser SP.
