This week we watched Lawless, the "based on true events" film about moonshining-bootleggers from the prohibition era. It has a star-studded cast in Tom Hardy, Jason Clarke, Shia Labeouf, Jessica Chastain, and Guy Pearce, along with a brief appearance by Gary Oldman. Wow. Lotta names there. Nothing says "Puritan family gets destroyed by a witch in the woods" like the 2015 film The Witch. Oddly specific, I know. In any case, this week we reviewed The Witch, and spoiler alert, many of us found it very satisfying. Although it may not be full of jump-scares and shaky-cam horror, The Witch is a very methodical and slow-burning horror-thriller that may be ushering in a new era of horror films. Nothing epitomizes the phrase "Oldie but goodie" more like Terminator 2. The James Cameron masterpiece (that word loosely defined) stars Arnie Schwarzenegger and is loaded with awesome 80s-90s action! Rear Window is about a man confined to his apartment who is convinced he witnessed a murder, even though he didn't seem see the murder happen. Don't get it? This 1988 film stars the aforementioned Eddie Murphy, Arsenio Hall, and James Earl Jones, and we even get a glimpse of a young Sam Jackson. This hot mess of a film was written by a man named Thunder, and stars only one recognizable face in Tara Reid. THUNDER. His name is Thunder; I'll let that sink in for a moment.
