Out of nowhere yesterday news emerged that star Kansas City Chiefs wide Tyreek Hill was suddenly available for a trade as contract talks broke down. The finalists were the Jets and the Miami Dolphins. Kansas City left it up to Hill to choose. He picked Miami despite the Jets offering him a large contract. The Jets have now done most of their major spending in the offseason. The Jets have been very active in free agency over the last few days. They have attempted to upgrade numerous key spots in their lineup. Free agency continued for the Jets on Wednesday, and the team stayed active. The first day of free agency was dedicated to improving the offense as the team addressed core needs at tight end and right guard. The second day was focused on the defense, the secondary in particular. The theme of day three was depth. The Jets made some additions to further bolster tight end and edge rusher. The team also brought back a pair of backup quarterbacks. One of these moves was puzzling. It was less puzzling than a trade that followed, though, as the Jets somehow got a sixth round pick for Blake Cashman, a player with minimal value. We discuss all of this on today's episode. The New York Jets stayed active on the second day of the NFL's "legal tampering" period. After focusing on the offensive side of the ball on the first day, the attention turned to the defense on day two. To be specific, the Jets targeted upgrades in a secondary that was a weakness for the team in 2021. Seattle's DJ Reed agreed to terms on a deal to become the team's new number one cornerback, while Jordan Whitehead signed to step into the lineup as a safety. The NFL offseason gets off to its unofficial start today as the legal tampering period begins. You could argue the offseason is already underway as a big trade was struck in the league over the weekend. The Cowboys agreed to send star receiver Amari Cooper to the Browns for a late round pick and a late round pick swap. Cooper seemed like a logical target for the Jets who needed to upgrade the receiving corps around Zach Wilson. This leaves the question of what the Jets will do at receiver.
