The Dudes try to solve a cold case with 2007's Zodiac. David Fincher expertly captured the exhaustive fervor, mass hysteria and obsessive paranoia surrounding this famous true-crime event. The acting is phenomenal, the attention to detail is meticulous, and the lack of Oscar nominations is unforgivable. Spike Jonze's exploration of human connection and the overreliance of technology in our lives is funny, romantic, sad, and hopeful all at the same time. Every moment feels real. Every scene feels earned. The Dudes get eyeball zapped by creepy kids in 1960's Village of the Damned. If you like weird kids doing weird stuff, then this is the film for you. It's got mind control, casual spousal abuse, and custom explosives! The dudes have a theory as to what caused all this madness, but it's too nasty to type. The Dudes are red herrings (or are they the killers?) in 1996's Scream. This meta examination of slasher tropes breathed new life into a tired genre, but also did movie posters no favors. Killer garage doors, works cited pages, and Matthew Lillard combine to make one hell of an experience. As a progenitor of the American New Wave, this film brought new ideas and techniques to the world of filmmaking, and pushed the boundaries of what was acceptable on the silver screen. The Dudes experience fine dining in 2001's Hannibal. This highly anticipated sequel to "The Silence of the Lambs" could never live up to expectations, but that doesn't mean it lacks interesting ideas or quality craftsmanship. It just lacks about everything else. Still, the set pieces are absolutely wild, and Gary Oldman's performance as Mason Verger is something you'll never forget. If he had a moustache, he'd be twirling it between his nasty little fingers. The Dudes go silent for once in their lives with 1926's The General.  Buster Keaton's masterpiece about a courageous train engineer in The American Civil War is both essential viewing for cinephiles, and morally reprehensible.  We always welcome challenging films, and thankfully this one is so expertly crafted, you almost....you know what, no.
