  • 249 - My Dinner With Andre

    16/12/2024 Duration: 01h42min

After referencing it for years, The Dudes finally cover 1981's My Dinner With Andre.  Wallace Shawn and Andre Gregory are very different people, but as writers and performers, their collaboration is perfectly synchronized.  Written by the two leads, this film is a dramatization of a conversation based on real events and experiences from each man's life.  It's also Dave's favorite movie, and seeing it will finally make you realize why he's like this.        Other movies discussed: The Godfather : Part II (1974) - Directed by Francis Ford Coppola Bad Times At The El Royale (2018) - Directed by Drew Goddard QUESTION OF THE WEEK: What movies do you recommend the most?   Thanks for listening! • 248 - Zodiac

    09/12/2024 Duration: 01h47min

The Dudes try to solve a cold case with 2007's Zodiac. David Fincher expertly captured the exhaustive fervor, mass hysteria and obsessive paranoia surrounding this famous true-crime event. The acting is phenomenal, the attention to detail is meticulous, and the lack of Oscar nominations is unforgivable. Try not to ruin your life while listening to this one - it just might happen...   Other movies discussed: Heretic (2024) - Directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods Hannah and Her Sisters (1986) - Directed by Woody Allen QUESTION OF THE WEEK: What are your favorite true crime stories?   Thanks for listening! • 247 - Her

    02/12/2024 Duration: 01h51min

The Dudes fall in love with a digital woman in 2013's Her. Spike Jonze's exploration of human connection and the overreliance of technology in our lives is funny, romantic, sad, and hopeful all at the same time. Every moment feels real. Every scene feels earned. Remember, there are a lot of dangers with AI, but you can say the same about love.   Other movies discussed: Fear City (1984) - Directed by Abel Ferrara Fallen (1998) - Directed by Gregory Hoblit QUESTION OF THE WEEK: What are the best movies in which a computer drives the story?   Thanks for listening! • 246 - Blood Rage

    25/11/2024 Duration: 01h35min

The Dudes haven't covered Twin Magic in a while, so they head to America's most questionable state for Thanksgiving sex and violence with 1987's Blood Rage.  This slasher that went through 4 different titles is a wild romp and delivers everything you expect.  It also features the weirdest performance of Louise Lasser's career.        Other movies discussed: Anora (2024) - Directed by Sean Baker Children Of The Damned (1964) - Directed by Anton M. Leader QUESTION OF THE WEEK: What are movies you like, but still make fun of?   Thanks for listening! If you want more Dudes on Movies, check out the links below. • 245 - Village of the Damned (1960)

    18/11/2024 Duration: 01h23min

The Dudes get eyeball zapped by creepy kids in 1960's Village of the Damned. If you like weird kids doing weird stuff, then this is the film for you. It's got mind control, casual spousal abuse, and custom explosives! The dudes have a theory as to what caused all this madness, but it's too nasty to type. You'll have to listen.   Other movies discussed: Conclave (2024) - Edward Berger MaXXXine (2024) - Directed by Ti West QUESTION OF THE WEEK: What are the scariest movies about children?   Thanks for listening! • 244 - The Breakfast Club

    11/11/2024 Duration: 02h04min

The Dudes have Saturday detention in 1985's The Breakfast Club. Hopefully they use this time to think about what they've done, but we know they'll just end up exploring their inner demons, wondering where Ally Sheedy got that change of clothes, and participate in several dance montages. Listen or they'll waste you!   Other movies discussed: Smile 2 (2024) - Parker Finn So I Married an Axe Murderer (1993) - Directed by Thomas Schlamme QUESTION OF THE WEEK: What songs always make you think about a certain movie?   Thanks for listening! • 243 - The Naked Gun

    04/11/2024 Duration: 01h44min

The Dudes have a 50-50 chance of living, though there's only a 10% chance of that, with 1988's The Naked Gun.  Rapid fire jokes in every frame will leave you wheezing by the 30th minute, and that's just the palate cleanser we all needed after Horror Month.  Enjoy the laughs everybody, because this is our hill, and these are our beans.       Other movies discussed: Sasquatch Sunset (2024) - Directed by Nathan Zellner and David Zellner The Substance (2024) - Directed by Coralie Fargeat QUESTION OF THE WEEK: What comedies are as funny now as when you first saw them?   Thanks for listening! • 242 - Scream

    28/10/2024 Duration: 01h51min

The Dudes are red herrings (or are they the killers?) in 1996's Scream. This meta examination of slasher tropes breathed new life into a tired genre, but also did movie posters no favors. Killer garage doors, works cited pages, and Matthew Lillard combine to make one hell of an experience. Get ready for one last one last scare.   Other movies discussed: Immaculate (2024) - Directed by Michael Mohan Leprechaun in the Hood (2000) - Directed by Rob Spera QUESTION OF THE WEEK: Who are your favorite Final Girls?   Thanks for listening! • 241 - The Shining

    21/10/2024 Duration: 02h10min

The Dudes should know Sir...they've always been here, with 1980's The Shining, Stanley Kubrick's masterful adaptation of Stephen King's novel.  Ten year-old Dave's fragile, eggshell mind couldn't handle the dread accompanying Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall's incredible acting.  Luckily, he grew up, and he and Scott get to break it all down right in the eye of Horror Month!       Other movies discussed: Renfield (2023) - Directed by Chris McKay Butcher, Baker, Nightmare Maker (1981) - Directed by William Asher QUESTION OF THE WEEK: What are the least faithful book to movie adaptations?   Thanks for listening! • 240 - Re-Animator

    14/10/2024 Duration: 01h51min

The Dudes experiment with green serum in 1985's Re-Animator! This Fangoria favorite features acting above its weight class, incredible gore effects, and many unforgettable moments. We gush about all of these things, and also make some dick jokes. You'll never think of the word "head" in the same way!   Other movies discussed: Megalopolis (2024) - Directed by Francis Ford Coppola Teeth (2007) - Directed by Mitchell Lichtenstein QUESTION OF THE WEEK: What are your favorite 80s Horror Movies?   Thanks for listening! The Dudes start Horror Month with 1999's The Blair Witch Project, the Indie classic that invented a new genre.  Now, this strange episode features our normal discussion, but also strange noises, a blackout in our studio, Scott's thoughts on "Chucky 2", and Dave's head cold.  After listening, please read this Variety feature detailing the actors' experience.  You won't look at the movie the same way again. https://variety.com/2024/film/news/blair-witch-project-cast-robbed-financial-success-1236033647/      Other movies discussed: Bride of Chucky (1998) - Directed by Ronny Yu The People Under The Stairs (1991) - Directed by Wes Craven QUESTION OF THE WEEK: What are your favorite independent Horror Movies?   Thanks for listening! • 238 - Cool Hand Luke

    30/09/2024 Duration: 01h50min

The Dudes are "recording a podcast here boss" with 1967's Cool Hand Luke. As a progenitor of the American New Wave, this film brought new ideas and techniques to the world of filmmaking, and pushed the boundaries of what was acceptable on the silver screen. Like eating 50 eggs. Sounds like a nice round number.   Other movies discussed: Humanoids from the Deep (1980) - Directed by Barbara Peeters and Jimmy T. Murakami The Good Earth (1937) - Stuart Rosenberg QUESTION OF THE WEEK:  Are there specific sequences in movies that literally make you ill?   Thanks for listening! • 237 - Ed Wood

    23/09/2024 Duration: 01h51min

The Dudes aren't angora salesmen, they're in pictures, with 1994's Ed Wood, Tim Burton's deeply personal biopic about the infamous Grade Z filmmaker and his relationship and collaboration with Bela Lugosi.  It's hilarious, shot in stunning Black and White, and stands as an essential document of Hollywood History.  And remember...future events such as these will affect you...in the future...    Other movies discussed: Brief Encounter (1945) - Directed by David Lean Serial Mom (1994) - Directed by John Waters QUESTION OF THE WEEK: What are your favorite modern Black and White films?   Thanks for listening! • 236 - Hannibal

    16/09/2024 Duration: 02h09min

The Dudes experience fine dining in 2001's Hannibal. This highly anticipated sequel to "The Silence of the Lambs" could never live up to expectations, but that doesn't mean it lacks interesting ideas or quality craftsmanship. It just lacks about everything else. Still, the set pieces are absolutely wild, and Gary Oldman's performance as Mason Verger is something you'll never forget. If he had a moustache, he'd be twirling it between his nasty little fingers. Also, Hannibal can probably teleport.   Other movies discussed: Tammy and the T-Rex (1994) - Directed by Stewart Raffill The Bells of St. Mary's (1945) - Directed by  Leo McCarey QUESTION OF THE WEEK: What are your favorite examples of a well-known character played by a different actor in a sequel?   Thanks for listening! • 235 - The General

    09/09/2024 Duration: 01h21min

The Dudes go silent for once in their lives with 1926's The General.  Buster Keaton's masterpiece about a courageous train engineer in The American Civil War is both essential viewing for cinephiles, and morally reprehensible.  We always welcome challenging films, and thankfully this one is so expertly crafted, you almost....you know what, no. It makes Southerners the heroes, and that part is indefensible.  Still, what a movie, everybody!       Other movies discussed: Alien : Romulus (2024) - Directed by Fede Alvarez Caged Heat (1974) - Directed by Jonathan Demme QUESTION OF THE WEEK: What are your favorite silent movies?   Thanks for listening!
