  • BONUS: Drone News – National Defense Authorization Act to Ban Chinese Drones, Huge Surge in Drone Deliveries Due to COVID, How Archaic Drone Laws are Hurting the Industry

    02/10/2020 Duration: 32min

Our biggest story this week is about the 2021 National Defense Authorization Act. This act will ban the use of Chinese drones as well as Chinese-made drone parts for federal use. The passage of this act will not just affect DJI but also other popular manufacturers like Skydio, 3DR and GoPro. With manufacturing being the Chinese's strong suit, do you think that this ban is a wise move? Do you think an American competitor can step up to cater to the needs of the drone industry? Our next story is about drone deliveries. Archaic drone regulations means that we cannot fly over people or fly BVLOS. Because of these and many more restrictions, the drone delivery industry in US has failed to truly take flight. Additionally, because of this, American drone manufacturers are setting up shop in Australia and even Africa where the drone laws are far more progressive. Is the FAA failing to move in tandem with the changing times? Do we need a dedicated agency for unmanned aviation? Let us know what you think. Other t

  • BONUS: Drone News – DJI Mavic Mini, DJI Mavic 3, Police Drones, DJI News, Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta

    16/10/2019 Duration: 29min

DJI Mavic 3 announced, DJI Mavic Mini release date, Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta, Police Drones being used as first responders, Phantom 4 Pro Production Updates Our biggest news this week is about the DJI Mavic 3. You heard that right. DJI is all set to come out with a successor to their wildly successful flagship drone, Mavic 2 Pro. To be released in January 2020, the Mavic 3 will come with 4K60 and ADS-B receivers. It is certainly no small coincidence that DJI chose to "leak" the news of a new drone right after the launch of the Skydio R2. But, considering the R2's impressive autonomous capabilities, it remains to be seen if DJI can up the ante, yet again with the Mavic 3. Our second news story is about the DJI Mavic Mini. The big selling point for this soon-to-be-released drone is that it weighs just 245 grams. As we have discussed on this show before, drones weighing less than 245 grams need NOT be registered with the FAA. But, does this mean that you can fly these drones without following any drone laws?
