Julian reflects on a situation not uncommon to (illegal) immigrants who are deported. In the case he speaks of, his friend spent years building a life in Canada, only to have it ripped away.

Here, Julian recounts witnessing a man attempt to commit suicide in response to his conditions in an immigration detention centre, located in Toronto. An immigration detention centre is a holding facility for new immigrants who have already completed serving their penalty for whatever law that they broke. In most Western Nations, 90 days is the limit for holding. In Canada, we have no limit.
