This week we welcome Dr. Daniella Chusyd fresh from her research and travels in the Congo. Dr. Chusyd was out in the field when the coronavirus pandemic hit and had to hurry back to the United States. She shares with us her experiences in Africa studying Forrest Elephants from deep in the Congo. She gives a fascinating look at her life tracking and studying these mysterious elephants. Raccoon Dogs are a species you would think oly belonged in folklore, but they actually exist. They are a much beloved a revered species in Japan. We have another discussion about the Netflix documentary Tiger King with two experts who actually rescue big cats. We are joined by Emily McCormack and David Enden, and discussion about Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge. Both have a passion for helping many big cats, especially tigers, that are held as pets or are exploited. We are fortunate to be joined by the Director of Research Emily from the Prusten Project. Their mission is from analyzing the social vocal communications of tigers, The Prusten Project seeks to define what makes an individual tiger's call unique in hopes of developing non-invasive acoustic monitoring. Such a project would be implemented through microphone arrays placed strategically over the tiger’s home ranges to be used as a tool for conservation censusing and anti-poaching efforts.
