Movie Improvie

The Haters all went and saw their good friend Spider-Man swinging his webs around real good real fast on the big screen over the weekend, and we wanted to get together and talk about it. So we made this little bonus episode! It's part review, part free-wheeling discussion, and surprise surprise, this being The Haters Cast, one of us was not exactly blown away by this movie. Obviously this one is gonna contain spoilers for Spider-Man: Homecoming, so make sure you listen to it AFTER you've seen the movie.

(500) Days of Summer is a movie directed by Marc Webb and staring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel. We decided it would be a good idea to do shots at every break while we recorded this episode. We would like to apologize for what you are about to hear. Bonjour films nuffs! We hope you're all ready to leave the Popcorn Zone and head on down the street to the Art House comma Franch comma Europe, because this week we're taking on Jean Luc Godard's groundbreaking French New Wave classic Breathless. Plus, we welcome James to the Riverdale fold, reveal that all science is fake, finally explain World War 2, call Jesus on a Time Phone, and Mae says 'Chip Zdarsky' about 15 times.

Because this is The Haters Cast, and we are haters, of course one of us would come out and say that they hated the literally UNIVERSALLY BELOVED Steven Spielberg classic E.T. And it happened to be James. Oh, and for once we did a movie that Mae had seen, but Phil hadn't! Go figure. Plus, we talk about bible stuff more for some reason, plot out the summer action hit/Russian art house film 2 Jet Ski/Tudjetski, and explore Mae's strange obsession with Mac and Me.

When the Mae is away, the brothers will play! It's a Phil and James two-hander this week, and they are racking their brains to figure out what everybody likes so gosh dang much about The Coen Brother's No Country for Old Men. Plus, we talk about the Universal Dark Universe and mummies generally, figure out what other collections of properties deserve the shared universe treatment, and plot out the new Gary Oldman thriller No Country for Oldman.

Grease! It's the word, it's the wave, it's the... Podcast?! That's right! This week we brought back our wonderful middle sister Emily Stressman to talk about another one of her childhood VHS favorites: Grease. Will Phil and James be convinced to love the musical they once hated? And where's Mae gonna land on all this business? The results may surprise you. Plus, we finally explain baseball.

With Alien: Covenant currently bursting its way out of theaters across this gentle land, your humble haters got to thinking: Hey, we thought, remember Prometheus? Boy that movie sure sucked. Or did it!? We decided to give that bad boy a rewatch to find out for sure. Plus: We talk about the Bible a lot, for some reason.

It's the year of the spider versus the octopus, this week, this year! The haters are tackling Sam Raimi's beloved Spidey sequel Spider-Man 2, considered by many folks to be one of the best gosh-dang super hero movies that ever got made! So of course, we hate it. Or do we?! Plus, Mae and Phil pitch their new fall pilot Cat Wife, and we all weigh in on the great Sandwich Debate. Check it!

This week your titular Haters three are back to discuss David Fincher's neo-noir psychological thriller Gone Girl, staring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike. Phil and James both thought it was a misogynist mess the last time they saw it; will their minds be changed this time around? Let it gooo, Let it gooooooo, it's the Frozen episode of our podcast showwwww! Time to bust out all those Elsa and Anna halloween costumes gang, cause it's Disney musical week on The Haters Cast, and we're talking Frozen! James loves this movel (of course) and Mae hates it, and Phil's never even seent it before! Will anyone be converted on this rewatch of the wildly popular icy fable? How will it all shake out?
