It's Disness Time

Steph and Marina are back to finish what they started in Part 1 of "Oh No They Didn't!", the racism-themed episode from the first season. In Part 2, the ladies discuss the racist elements in Disney films from 1970 to the present, including Pocahontas, The Aristocats, Zootopia, and even fan favourites like Aladdin and The Little Mermaid.

Throughout the years, there have been a handful of Disney movies that have flopped, bombed, and been swept under the rug, and this week Steph and Marina are bringing them into the spotlight to figure out what went wrong. Just like these films, the sound quality of this weeks' episode is a little off. Next week's will be better :)

Happy Pride! To celebrate, Steph and Marina discuss the queer narratives found within some of Disney's most popular films, particularly the first "exclusively gay moment" in 2017's live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast, and ponder over the Disney characters that may have been part of the LGBTQ community all along.

Did you catch the subtle racism in The Jungle Book? What about the blatant, in-your-face racism in Peter Pan? Let's face it, we've all watched Disney movies in our childhoods and never picked up on the racist subtext, and now in hindsight, we all feel a little more than awkward about it. In Part 1 of their first two-parter episode, Steph and Marina cover all the notable racist moments in Disney films ranging from 1923-1967, including Lady and the Tramp, Dumbo, and Disney's most notorious movie, "Song of the South".

Hollywood has an obsession with movie remakes and Disney is no exception. This week, Steph and Marina dive into the best and worst live-action remakes that Disney has released to date and speculate about the live-action versions of their favourite Disney movies that are still to come, such as Mulan, The Sword and the Stone, and The Lion King.

Everything before the 20th century was shit. The proof is in the original versions of classic fairy tales that were (thankfully) watered down by Disney and presented in cartoon format for our delicate little eyes, with consensual love, happy endings, and morals galore! This week, Steph and Marina tackle their first Listener Request and compare some original fairy tales to their Disney counterparts, discuss the dark and disturbing details, and basically destroy everyone's childhood in the process.

What's with all the mama drama, Disney? In this special Mother's Day inspired episode, Steph and Marina talk about the common theme of missing, monstrous, and momentarily maternal mother figures in Disney movies and how it ties back to the Fairy Tale stories that they're based on.

It's our Bad and Boo-gie episode! This week, Steph and Marina explore villain popularity, dissect the personalities of their favourite iconic baddies, and get to the bottom of why, when it comes to legendary Disney characters, it's so good to be bad.

In episode number two, Steph and Marina go out of their way to upset each other and their listeners. Tapping into their deepest emotions to explore Disney's saddest movie moments, they encourage listeners to grab a tissue because these are the Disney scenes that left them weeping.

Finally getting to the topic we all want to hear about, Steph and Marina dispute over who the hottest Disney male character is. The convo gets fierce as the ladies defend their men, and FYI, this episode's silliness level is a 9/10.
