In fact, we're here to communicate you CAN be a Christian and STILL believe in some of science's claims. Mary McManamy mentioned a book that is worth checking out to go deeper in this topic: "Never Pure: Historical Studies of Science as if It Was Produced by People with Bodies, Situated in Time, Space, Culture, and Society, and Struggling for Credibility and Authority" by Steven Shapin.Have questions or ideas for a future episode? • 007: Why I Kissed Premarital Kissing Goodbye (Part 1)

    21/03/2019 Duration: 15min

  • 006: How to Study the Bible (Part 6)

    14/03/2019 Duration: 14min

All of the Bible is about one main character, Jesus. In this episode, we'll explain why this is true for the Old Testament as well as the New Testament. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • 005: How to Study the Bible (Part 5)

    13/03/2019 Duration: 12min

The Bible is not a random bunch of words thrown together. Rather, each passage of the Bible has structure to it. A perfect example is the book of Proverbs - Hebrew poetry. If you understand how Hebrew poetry is structured - in this book's case, synonymous parallelism - then it's easier for us to understand what a particular passage in Proverbs is communicating. • 004: How to Study the Bible (Part 4)

    13/03/2019 Duration: 09min

When it comes to interpreting the Bible, it's important that we get a BIG PICTURE (or known as the Melodic Line) of an individual book of the Bible before we attempt to interpret and understand an individual passage of scripture. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • 003: How to Study the Bible (Part 3)

    13/03/2019 Duration: 07min

When you open the Bible, it's very easy to quickly misinterpret a passage at first glance. Ask the average Christian, "What's your life verse?" and you'll quickly hear examples of how this happens. Why? We often forget God wrote the Bible to a specific people, at a specific time, at a specific place in history. In this episode, we'll look at 3 types of context to help us best interpret the Bible:The literary contextThe historical contextThe theological context See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • 002: How to Study the Bible (Part 2)

    13/03/2019 Duration: 09min

If we're going to do Christian living and theology, we start with SQUARE 1, the Bible. And, all of us come to the Bible with an ideas of how to understand the world, and we call those framework. And, where this becomes a problem when coming to the Bible, is that we often bring our framework (i.e. political, social, therapeutic, prosperity, etc) with us and we tend to interpret scripture through those lenses. So what? What if our framework colors our interpretation of the Bible in an incorrect way? See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • 001: How to Study the Bible (Part 1)

    13/03/2019 Duration: 11min

If we are going to talk about Christian truth, we start in ONE PLACE, and that's the Bible. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
