It addresses the needs of broadcasters and studios who are having to come up with innovative ways to make their content increasingly relevant and engaging to consumers. Smartzer works through an overlay that presents the content metadata, upon touching the screen. Products in the frame can be purchased, with home delivery.

UCL Provost's Spirit of Enterprise Award 2013 Nominee: Professor Nick Fox - Audio
03/06/2013 Duration: 03minAs part of his research into early diagnosis in Alzheimer's disease, Professor Nick Fox has developed innovative image-analysis methods. Recognizing the powerful potential of his techniques to monitor progression in therapeutic trials, he actively engaged with industry and his technique was adopted by dozens of commercial multi-centre trials, becoming the “industry-standard” for atrophy progression. Nick Fox established an internationally-renowned image analysis trials team at UCL which has brought major contracts to the UK and UCL (income exceeding £5m over last 5 years), including the analysis for the largest study of immunotherapy in Alzheimer’s disease (~8000 brain scans). He was also pivotal to the award of the Leonard Wolfson Experimental Neurology Centre at UCL, which is a major attraction to industry.

UCL Provost's Spirit of Enterprise Award 2013 Nominee: Professor Mehrdad Zangeneh - Audio
03/06/2013 Duration: 02minProfessor Zangeneh’s research on computational methods to improve the performance of rotating machinery has fostered a long-term research collaboration with the Ebara Corporation of Japan that has resulted in over £1.2 million of research income for UCL and supported 6 post-doc researchers. Importantly the collaboration led to the development of the innovative inverse method of turbo-machinery design, with the IP providing the foundations for the establishment of UCL spinout company, Advanced Design Technology. In 2012, the turnover of ADT exceeded £1million for the first time and with a multinational customer base, the company is a global leader in turbo-machinery design software.
