Victor Davis Hanson: Joe Biden is no Dwight D. Eisenhower
22/01/2025 Duration: 06minOn today’s edition of “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words,” a Daily Signal original, Hanson critically analyzes Joe Biden's farewell address, pointing out the hypocrisy in Biden's warnings about a new oligarchy. Hanson compares Biden's speech to Dwight D. Eisenhower's historic warning about the military-industrial complex and argues Biden lacks credibility. “But remember Joe Biden is no Dwight Eisenhower. He had credibility. He was a two-term president. He was the hero of what he called the American crusade in Europe, from the beaches of Normandy in June 1944, all the way into the interior of Germany. So, people believed him. Unfortunately, Joe Biden has no such credibility.” ”I'm not a big fan of Mark Zuckerberg, and he was a hostile opponent of Donald Trump, but whether you like him or not, he revolutionized Facebook. So, these so-called oligarchs, David Sachs, or Peter Thiel, or Elon Musk, or Mark Zuckerberg, or Jeff Bezos, they are ‘can-do’ people. And Trump has them around him now. They're making k

Victor Davis Hanson: Donald Trump's Inauguration Day Promises and Biden Pardons
21/01/2025 Duration: 07minIn today’s edition of “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words,” Hanson assess the promises made by President Donald Trump in his inauguration speech, from combatting DEI to securing the border, and the messages between the lines. “Here's my point: Trump was blunt, maybe even crude. He said he was going to eventually — we would have the Panama Canal. He was going to rename the Gulf of Mexico, the ‘Gulf of America,’and people were kind of hysterical, in their reactions. But it's the way he said it and his directness and his candor and his honesty that bothered them.” “It reminded me of the great seal of the United States, “Novus Ordo Seclorum,” a new order for the ages or for the centuries. That comes from Virgil's Eclogues, the great Latin poet, when he was talking about the birth of a new Roman generation—in particular descendants of Augustus—that would change Rome forever. And our founders in 1776 put it on the seal. And you see it emblazoned on the $1 bill. And that's the type of mood he's trying to encourag

18/01/2025 Duration: 07minIn this edition of “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words,” Hanson critiques President Joe Biden’s claims about his own foreign policy in the waning days of his presidency. “So why would you claim that you had done this outstanding achievement? And the war is not over. It’s the worst carnage in Europe since the Battle of Stalingrad—1.7 million dead, wounded or missing. It’s nothing to brag about. It’s a complete catastrophe.” “He said that he was tough on China. He said China wasn’t our rival. He allowed a Chinese spy balloon to traverse the United States. For a week, he did nothing.” “Trump didn’t have a war in Afghanistan because you lost it. And you humiliated us. And you destroyed deterrence…this was the single greatest disaster in foreign policy in a century, and yet, he had the audacity to go before the State Department and claim it was a great success.” Learn more about your ad choices. 15/01/2025 Duration: 08minIn this edition of The Daily Signal’s “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words,” Hanson delves into former President Donald Trump's negotiation techniques, which critics call “trolling.” Hanson discusses how Trump's strategies, as described in 'The Art of the Deal,' play out in various geopolitical scenarios: renaming the Gulf of Mexico, purchasing Greenland, renegotiating the Panama Canal Treaty, and making Canada a state: “In the case of renaming the Gulf of Mexico, the Mexican president showed a map recently of the southwest of the United States being part of Mexico. That was her counter. That's kind of a bad troll, because they rely on $63 billion of remittances.” The discussion emphasizes Trump's approach of making extreme demands to gain an upper hand and highlights the irony in how he uses left-wing arguments against their proponents. From diversity, equity, and inclusion dilemmas to regulatory failures, see how this extreme ideology impacts good governance. “We have a $700,000-a-year utilities czar in Los Angeles, and she cannot explain why there was not enough water, at least in a convincing way—because she's never had to, because she was ideologically correct.” “You have an assistant fire chief who said, ‘If women can't—if I can't carry out a man [from a burning building], then that's not on me. It's the man who shouldn't be there.’ It's like saying if a child fell down a well and I'm not physically strong enough to retrieve him and save him, that's his fault. He shouldn't have been in the well.” “In the Los Angeles catastrophe, there are whole areas of imperial inquiry that are put off limits. Yo

We Need A Travel Ban, Now | Victor Davis Hanson
11/01/2025 Duration: 09minIn this edition of “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words,” Hanson, author of “The End of Everything: How Wars Descend into Annihilation,” explores the unprecedented state of illegal immigration in the US and proposes solutions to restore border security. Some of the solutions mentioned include: “I think that whatever your status is, if you are sending money back to a foreign country from the United States that is singled out as a source of illegal immigration—Mexico, Latin America, for example—then the United States government should put a 10 to 20 or 30% tax on all remittances.” “We’re the only country in the world that gives unqualified citizenship to people who happen to be born here and then anchor an entire family. Why not also put a 10, 20 year ban on people who have been detained here illegally and stop them from applying for a green card or legal readmissions for 20 years, that would be a very powerful deterrent.” Learn more about your ad choices. 11/01/2025 Duration: 26minThe American Civil Liberties Union has launched a publicity campaign aimed at pushing back on President Donald Trump’s pledge to deport illegal aliens. But pastor and Congressman Mark Harris, R-N.C., says the ACLU is “missing the point that not all of these folks that are coming are asylum seekers.” “If you really were compassionate and really believed in the asylum program, you would not just be trying to push this Biden administration's process along the way, because what you do is you mess it up for those who have real need, and you mess it up for those that are seeking asylum in this country,” Harris said. Trump has pledged to deport illegal aliens, beginning first with criminals and those who pose a threat to the country, such as members of the Venezuelan prison gang Tren de Aragua, which now operates in over a dozen states across the U.S., including North Carolina, the state Harris represents. Voters “very much believe that we've got to get back to law and order,” Harris said, adding that he th
