Synopsis

Since 2008 Dr. Michael Barta has been working exclusively with the sexually addicted population and has found that roughly 98% of people he sees  are suffering from sexually compulsive behaviors and also have significant attachment wounds. After seeing this trend, he began studying how attachment affects our brains and our future ability to connect with other people. Sex addiction has long been recognized as an intimacy disorder, meaning that people that suffer from sexual addiction have a very difficult time allowing others into their inner world – they lack the ability to be vulnerable. Tonight, he will speak about the formation of intimacy disorder and the trouble people have with vulnerability and intimacy. He will also address what he does to help these people come “back on-line” so that they can begin to experience intimacy and closeness.
