Synopsis
Queensland Police Commissioner Steve Gollschewski has resigned due to a recent cancer diagnosis. The announcement came unexpectedly, cutting short his tenure which began in April of the previous year. Gollschewski's time as commissioner was marked by his efforts in navigating the state through floods, COVID-19, and addressing issues of sexism and racism within the police service. He also oversaw the recruitment of over 3,000 officers and emphasized tackling domestic and family violence. Deputy Commissioner Shane Chelepy will immediately take over as acting commissioner. The Premier and Police Union President expressed their gratitude and wished Gollschewski well as he focuses on his health and treatment. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
