My mum struggles to understand me because when she grew up in the 1960s in England’s working-class north, she didn’t know that ‘gay’ existed. Her son ended up as a metropolitan queer in London. Although we’re very different people, I’m still the same little boy she used to take to watch films at “the pictures” during school holidays. This is a trailer for a podcast I’m hoping to make: Mum and me trying to get to know each other better by watching gay films together.
