After our brief encounter with the woman caught in the act of adultery, we return to John’s previous narrative at the perfect moment. Chapter 7 tells us that Jesus has come to the Temple in Jerusalem during Sukkoth or the Feast of Tabernacles/Booths. The feast of Tabernacles is one of 3 great feasts that all of Israel are required to pilgrimage to Jerusalem to attend. The Festival of Sukkoth is a time of tremendous rejoicing. The people would set up booths (tabernacles) to dwell in during the 7 days of this feast. Four things are important to us about Sukkoth:
