"For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?" (Matthew 16:26). In order to understand the value God puts on a soul, it would be good to understand: what is a soul? The Bible, both Old and New Testament, describes it as our personality -- more specifically, our mind, will, and emotions. Before salvation, our body contained our soul with an empty spirit. But after salvation, our body contains our spirit (where Christ abides) with an ever-renewing soul -- meaning our soul must now come under submission to our spirit.
