Medicare is now covering Acupuncture! As of January 21, 2020, The Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), will cover acupuncture for "Chronic Low Back Pain." Let's look at the coverage in the Medicare National Coverage Determination Manual. Section 1862(a)(1)(A) of the Social Security Act  Up to "12" visits in 90 days are covered for Medicare Beneficiaries under the following circumstances: a. Chronic Low Back Pain which lasts "12 weeks or longer," b. the Chronic Low Back Pain is "non-specific," in that it has NO identifiable systemic cause (NOT associated with metastatic, inflammatory, infectious, disease). c. the Chronic Low Back Pain is NOT associated with surgery d. the Chronic Low Back Pain is NOT associated with pregnancy.
