The disciples’ grief was immense as Jesus prepared them for his death. And yet, Jesus assured them that their sorrow would soon turn to joy. They would rejoice when they saw him again — for he would return! — and they would have peace because Jesus had overcome the world. They could take comfort in knowing that the Father loved them and that if they prayed in Jesus’s name, their joy would multiply.
