Having prayed one final prayer for his followers after the Passover meal, Jesus and his disciples left the upper room, crossed the brook Kidron, red with the blood of thousands of lambs who had been sacrificed, and entered the Garden of Gethsemane. There he was met by the betrayer Judas and a band of soldiers who had come to arrest him. In this tense moment, we see Jesus’ claim of deity, his authority, his willingness to go to the cross, and his compassion even for his enemies.
