Arrested and accused, Jesus was brought before Pilate, the Roman governor of Judea, where the Jewish leaders demanded that Jesus be crucified as punishment for what they considered blasphemy— after all, Jesus claimed to be God. In John 18:28—19:16, we witness the extraordinary exchange between Pilate and Jesus, where Pilate both makes a mockery of Jesus’s kingship and at the same time recognizes that this man was innocent. But rather than submit and honor the true King, Pilate gives in to the mob, delivering the Son of God over to be crucified. In this sermon, Pastoral Assistant Samuel Iwuchukwu preaches “The Judgment.”
