After first appearing to Mary at the tomb, Jesus presented himself that evening to his disciples as they were gathered together. Thomas, however, was not with them and did not see him, leading him to express doubts that Jesus had truly risen from the grave. But Jesus had risen and he would appear to Thomas, too, directly addressing Thomas’s particular doubts. The apostle John penned his Gospel so that those who read it would behold Jesus and believe that he is our Lord and our God.
