Synopsis
In "The Secret of Augusta", Machado de Assis weaves a tale of intrigue and appearances. Vasconcelos, a man in debt, tries to marry off his daughter Adelaide to Gomes to restore his fortune but faces unexpected resistance from his wife, Augusta.
