Synopsis
Set after the end of the world, "The Conversation of Eiros and Charmion" takes the form of a dialogue between two souls in the afterlife. Eiros recounts to Charmion how humanity met its doom: a comet approached Earth, first celebrated as a cosmic wonder, then feared as it consumed the planet's atmosphere and brought annihilation. Through their exchange, Poe explores human arrogance, scientific curiosity, and the fragility of civilization in the face of cosmic forces.
