I ran across a mystery box company that deals in graded Pokemon cards. I am a sucker for these mystery subscription boxes so I had to try it. The subscription was a bit pricey, $65. The graded card I received has a value of about $30-$35 on a good day. So basically, you are gambling on winning the raffle and give-a-way or getting lucky with a Gold Box. Unless you are into taking chances I wouldn't subscribe to this box. Here Comes Calico from Sigma Comics has been firing on all cylinders! Great story - yup, who doesn't love seeing someone stand up to animal abusers? Good artwork - the visual aesthetic fits the story line and adds a little extra oomph to the overall experience. Compelling characters - there are enough interesting and relatable characters in the first five issues to launch endless spinoff stories. These aren't your run of the mill characters either. There is a gang of little people and one of the most feared crime bosses has Down Syndrome. This series does not shy away from using characters that fall outside the spectrum of normal comic book tropes. The hero of the story is not against using extreme violence to extract justice for animals that are being abused. Blood, gore, and brutal reality are presented in the story in such a way that it doesn't feel forced. McDonald's is really going after that nostalgia. It has been 6 years (2016) since they have done the Happy Meal buckets for Halloween. I remember trick or treating back in the day and most of the kids were carrying these buckets to collect their candy. The poor kids like myself just carried our candy around in an old pillowcase. The Atari Graveyard was an urban legend for many years. The rumor was in 1983 Atari dumped a few semi truckloads of Atari product when the games market bottomed out. This was just after the infamous E.T. game that tanked (I personally kinda liked the game). They unfairly pinned the demise of Atari on the E.T. game so much that it became synonymous with video game failures. In 2014 a group got together to either prove or disprove the urban legend. The old dumpsite had been closed and covered over for many years. Some of the old dump workers got together and their memories and pictures from when Atari arrived to dump stuff and they narrowed it down to about 4 acres of possibility. On April 16, 2014 they excavated some of the buried Atari products. The city of Alamogordo was allowed to keep some of the findings and they have been selling them on Ebay. For me, it is a very cool little nerdy thing to have. They will likely keep them listed on Ebay until they all sell. Just do a search for "Atari Burial Alamogordo"

New Mexico has a State Fair up in Albuquerque, but we do things differently here in Southern New Mexico. So much so that we have our own version of the state fair. I was there on Saturday and it was pretty packed. Lots of entertainment, fair food, and rodeo stuff to take in. Most adults have fond memories of begging your parents to stop at McDonald's for a happy meal. The anticipation of getting that one of a kind shaped box was almost as exhilarating as Christmas morning. It wasn't the food in the happy meal that got your adrenaline pumping, it was the prize! Happy Meals have had some of the most desired toys for kids over the decades. They had everything from McDonald's themed toys to blockbuster movie tie-in stuff. At one point they even had a separate collection of toys for boys and girls. When I heard they were coming out with an Adult Happy Meal complete with a toy, my curiosity was piqued. I was afraid it would be another attempt to force healthy food on us. I was ecstatic when I found out it was basically a supersized kids happy meal! I was invited to attend Northern Ireland Comic Con in Belfast. I took a week to travel around Northern Ireland and Ireland to take in all the beautiful country. The first stop was Belfast by way of New York City JFK and London Heathrow. The Titanic Hotel is located in the Titanic Quarter of Belfast. It is conveniently right across the street from the Titanic Museum. The hotel itself, is the old headquarters of Harland & Wolff, builders of Titanic. They really did a great job of modernizing the building while maintaining a lot of the old structure. There are lots of awesome pieces of art detailing the history of White Star Line and the Titanic. The Titanic Hotel Belfast is a great hotel to stay at for one night while you are visiting the Titanic Museum. The history and ambience of the Titanic Hotel are top notch and their bar and dining are amazing. If you plan on staying in Belfast for more than one night, I suggest getting a room in downtown Belfast for the other nights, mostly due to the price. SUBSCRI
