  • IT WORKED FOR MY PARENTS

    16/09/2014 Duration: 02h50min

Despite the reporting over the years that spanking is for naught, many parents still seem to do it. More than half of the mothers questioned in the Pediatrics study reported spanking their kids at age 3 and at age 5. Spanking teaches hitting, it's that simple So that if you don't get your way and you're bigger than me, you can hit me to get your way. That's the lesson of spanking. A  national survey showed more than half of women and three-quarters of men in the United States believe a child sometimes needs a "good hard spanking. The majority of parents say they spank their kids. Various factors increase the likelihood, including geographic location (children in the South are spanked the most), family income (less money means more spanking), race (African-American mothers spank their children more than other ethnic groups), and religion (parents more fundamentalist in their religious beliefs spank more than those who are less so). But all in all, it's a pretty clear picture 94% of 3- and 4-year-olds

  • I NEED MY JOB

    11/09/2014 Duration: 02h54min

It's not just that a greater share of African Americans are out of work. It's also that they continue to seek jobs for longer than whites do. Last month, the unemployment rate for white Americans was 5.4 percent. For black Americans, it was more than twice that, at 11.5, the numbers are down from 13.5 percent about the same time last year. Unemployment in the African American community remain in the double digits, causing alarm among some civil rights leaders.  African-American women are the only demographic in the United States whose unemployment rate has not improved over the past year, according to a National Women's Law Center analysis of the latest jobs data.   http://www.theroot.com/articles/politics/2014/08/naacp_slams_double_digit_black_unemployment_rate.html http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/09/05/black-women-employment_n_5773880.html

  • DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND THE LAW PART II

    04/09/2014 Duration: 02h59min

Domestic violence is considered one of the most pressing issues in American society. Everyone quotes the statistics given by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence: 1 in 4 women will be victims of domestic violence at some point in their lives, 1.3 million women are assaulted by their partner every year, 85% of domestic violence reported is against women. However, in a conflicting survey taken by the CDC in 2010, it was found that 40% of the victims of severe, physical domestic violence are men. The media and government focus the most attention on the female victims of domestic violence. Men are largely silent on the issue because of the perception that men are physically stronger and should be able to subdue a female attacker easily. Those men who do report physical violence are more likely to be ridiculed–both by law enforcement and by the public–than women are.  The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) was the first major law to help government agencies and victim advocates work together to fight

  • DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND THE LAW

The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) was the first major law to help government agencies and victim advocates work together to fight domestic violence, sexual assault, and other types of violence against women. It created new punishments for certain crimes and started programs to prevent violence and help victims. Over the years, the law has been expanded to provide more programs and services.  Domestic violence is considered one of the most pressing issues in American society.
