In This Episode: We cover a quick main topic of SteamWorld Quest and then jump into an extra long Weekly Geekery since we skipped it for our Avengers Endgame spoilercast last week.   In short, the SteamWorld games are pretty fantastic. They take a steampunk look and put the robots and cogs and gears into different settings.  SteamWorld Dig is a western, SteamWorld Heist is in space, and now SteamWorld Quest is medieval fantasy. They all work so incredibly well that you almost forget you're playing with silly robots. SWQuest itself is a card-based RPG based on deckbuilding, but it does not play like that. The cards themselves are basically just facades for abilities you learn and choose from, and the re-draws are essentially just cooldowns you get every turn. The game's story is nothing special, but the graphics are beautiful, and the gameplay is far, far, far better than we had expected. We wanted to do this primarily so that we could tackle the subject from the perspective of someone who is pretty new to the game (Void), as well as someone who has a lot of experience with MTG that dates back to the late 90s (Beej). Void has always been Magic-adjacent, having a brother who played and knowing the very basics of how the game worked. For a number of reasons, he never could quite get into the game. One of the main ones being that it is a physical CCG, and he's not too much of a collector of physical items. And really, that's MTG's whole shtick. You buy booster packs of random cards, hoping for something awesome. If not, you sell it or trade it so you can get something awesome. But either way, you have physical pieces of cardboard in your possession. With the release of Magic: The Gathering Arena (think Hearthstone but made by Wizards of the Coast...and, you know,

In This Episode: We discuss remasters in all shapes and sizes including the good and the bad.   We wanted to talk about this because Void is working through the remaster of Assassin's Creed 3, and it gave him a lot of thoughts about how the new games have a lot more going for them than he really expected. Going back shows the improvements the series has made. That said, we discuss whether all remasters are good, bad, or even necessary. The Final Fantasy series has been remastered up and down, left and right, and some are great, and others are not so good.  We also talk about how the remasters of the FF games is because SquareEnix lost the source code to a number of their games over the years. That's why some of the remasters are such a mixed bag, and why some of the graphics are kind of hit and miss. For Beej, it's AAA games, and he tends to regret them. Void, on the other hand, gets a lot of enjoyment out of being in that initial wave of sales and being able to talk, so even when he impulse buys something, he can get his money's worth out of it even if he stops playing it soon. We both feel as though our houses are impulse buys, which is kind of crazy when you think about it...because they're houses. In This Episode: We discuss superhero burnout and how we’re feeling about the upcoming MCU (and non-MCU) movies that are on the horizon.   BJ is in the middle of an MCU rewatch, and is currently not too burned out. At least on movies. TV shows are a different story, and so are the DC movies, to be fair. It's really just Marvel movies that he's currently excited about, and that's because we are getting the culmination of the past 11 years in a few weeks. Void, on the other hand, wonders if he will see many more of them in the theater versus waiting for home release, but as we dig further, it turns out that his kids are finally hitting the age where they want to go and see them because they are just beginning to see the movies. We discuss the idea that every Marvel movie at this point is someone's first Marvel movie, and that changes the way we have to look at it. After thirteen years of waiting, and nearly 18 since the series' debut, we have our grubby little hands on the final installment of the mainline Kingdom Hearts games. The real question, though, isn't necessarily whether it's good or not. That's almost beyond the point. The real question we have to ask ourselves as fans of the series is... Was KH3 Worth the Wait? It was a pretty big break, and there was a lot of stuff to cover. Void dived deep into Read Dead Redemption 2, but still isn't 100% sure how he feels about it. It's not quite...fun. It's good?
