Synopsis
A podcast and community for creatives looking for an extra dose of bravery to get out there and do what they're called to do. Together we expose the threads of heroism behind the stories and people we love most.Singer/songwriter, teaching artist, and creative entrepreneur, Emily Ann Peterson, hosts guests who have stories of brave battles, creative solutions, courageous failures, dream-crushing constraints, knee-knocking fears, and innovative genius. Every week features the authors, musicians, artists, business owners, and other professionals who courageously pour themselves into their work. Every guest will flaunt the obstacles battled and the bravery required for their quiet victories and loud failures. Every episode holds conversations that unclothe the fears befriended (or banished) along our stories of bravery, quiet heroism, and all-out gutsy-ness. Some episodes will open the (sometimes) Pandora's box of constraints and dream-crushing realities. Perhaps by listening to others search for and find their bravery, we will all find our own. For that is what we need most: to know we are not alone.

057: How to Be Wrong & Stay Listening with ANDY ZOOK
29/08/2017 Duration: 44minToday we have the extreme pleasure of talking with Andy Zook of the band "Bears & Other Carnivores." Andy and I met because our mutual friend (who is also a member of the Bare Naked Bravery community) invited both Andy and I to perform a couple songs for a little backyard garden concert several weeks back. While I was *totally* enjoying Andy's songs, Tos, our mutual friend, pulled me aside and said "You've GOT to have Andy on Bare Naked Bravery. Your podcast and his podcast are two I listen to religiously! He'd be perfect!" And of course, the Bare Naked Bravery community never lets us down! Nominations are the way we get soooo many of our amazing guests on the show and today is no exception! So yes, Andy also has a podcast. It's called "Bad at Parties" and I know you'll love it too. Remember, as always, all the links to the things we mention today will be in the show notes for this episode over at barenakedbravery.com I also know you'll love today's chat because we're covering topics like how to put yours

056: Your DNA for Meaningful Work, Courage & Clarity with STEPHANIE CROWDER
23/08/2017 Duration: 49minI'm so excited to feature Stephanie Crowder today! She's been a member of the Fizzle.Co Team for a couple years and I'm an avid fan of theirs! You'll find out more about that in a bit. More importantly to today's conversation, Stephanie recently started a gem of a podcast called "Courage & Clarity." In fact, she interviewed me for it and recently published those episodes too! Today, she and I talk about duh, courage & clarity and how they play on each other and balance each other out. We also chat about how we can find that courage and clarity to do meaningful work in the world. It's so good. I know you'll enjoy hearing her own personal experiences and learning curves because she's got a great perspective as a new mom, and a workin' career gal who recently "jumped ship" to join a smaller team. Towards the end of our chat, Steph and I talk about this killer guide and workbook that she's pulled together for you! The link for that and anything else we mention are in the show notes for this episode over a

055: How to Find Your Creative Intuition with Food - MARISA MOLINA
15/08/2017 Duration: 47minThis episode is near and dear to my heart. I know it's kind of weird to talk about your relationship to food on a bravery podcast for creatives, but here we are. If you've listened to the show for awhile, you've probably already heard me mention my own story with an eating disorder. I spent years and years NOT listening to my intuition and then years and years re-teaching myself all about it. As we explain later, there's actually a LOT in this intersection of topics of bravery, food, and creativity. Today Marisa Molina joins us to talk about intuition and how our relationship with food can assist or drag the rest of our life and creativity down. Intuition is such a huge factor in being brave and I'm so glad her expertise in this is here for us. Marisa Molina helps people to transform their relationship with food, their bodies, and themselves so they can eat, love and live freely. She teaches people how to use mindfulness and awareness to move past mental blocks that keep them from reaching their goals and to

053: How to Encounter Fear: Advice from a Former Adrenaline Junkie - AKSHAY NANAVATI
01/08/2017 Duration: 43minToday is going to be an adventure, that's for sure. After overcoming drug addiction, a diagnosis of PTSD after the war in Iraq, and a battle with alcohol that pushed him to the brink of suicide, Akshay has since explored the most hostile environments on the planet and built a global business helping people live limitless lifestyles. Combining years of research in neuroscience and psychology with his life experience, Akshay wrote the book “Fearvana: The Revolutionary Science of How to Turn Fear Into Health, Wealth and Happiness.” I wanted to have Akshay join us because 1) he was nominated to the show by a previous guest and Bare Naked Bravery community member, David Shriner-Cahn but 2) we haven't featured a perspective of PTSD yet and I really appreciated Akshay's particular experience and journey in this. Also, 3) the Dalai Lama wrote the foreword to his book and I really wanted to know how that came about! I think you'll really enjoy this. Let's make like a skydiver and jump on into it! ps027: How to Get More Results From Less Effort
28/07/2017 Duration: 10minOver the last couple weeks I've seen this happen a lot: my creative friend will go on vacation, work maybe 1 hour everyday while away only to return to a super hugely financially profitable week! Why does this happen?! And how have I been able to be soooo productive? It's allll about the 80/20 Pareto Principle. 80% of the results come from 20% of the effort. 052: How to Grieve Beautifully & Collaborate Generously with HOLLI MARGELL
25/07/2017 Duration: 50minOkay guys get ready for a really intimate conversation this week. Today we have the privilege of hearing a really tender side of Holli Margell's experience as a photographer and specifically as a daughter of someone who died from breast cancer. A side note: Holli and I don't talk about this really in the episode, but I know it's really timely to mention that providing places for women to get cancer screenings and regular checkups with a doctor is SO important. I am an avid supporter of Planned Parenthood for this very reason. Unfortunately, the accessibility of this service is being threatened with our current political climate. This is why for anyone who leaves a review in iTunes saying how much they appreciate Holli's vulnerability, then I will donate $10 from my personal bank account to Planned Parenthood. So leave a review and I'll donate $10 to ensure cancer screenings are accessible and affordable. Click here to leave a review Okay, back to Holli. You guys are going to adore her. 051: Curiosity & Its Role in The Art of Authenticity with LAURA COE
18/07/2017 Duration: 46minLet's talk about curiosity today. It plays such a HUGE role in our bravery (both the big and small kinds.) Someone estranged from their own curiosity, I've noticed, end up feeling trapped and victimized by their own situation. Regaining your sense of curiosity is a huge help for those moments of "Why is this happening to me!?" This is why I'm so pleased to introduce you to Laura Coe is a life coach and an author of the book "Emotional Obesity" AND she's host of the podcast "Art of Authenticity." Not only do I love spreading love for other podcasts out there who are killing it these days, but Laura because of her experiences, she has some really poignant perspectives on the subject of authentically putting yourself out there. Even while working in corporate healthcare, Laura always specialized in breaking down complex concepts for to make them easy to digest, understand, and apply. Now she channels that unique skill into “translating” philosophy and ancient wisdom – breaking down monumental, life-changing wisd

ps24: Carving Out Time to Be Creative - Time Blocking 101
07/07/2017 Duration: 15minEryn Morgan (@eagleandmouse on Instagram) asked me a couple weeks ago about how I find the motivation to sit down and be creative. Time Blocking is a huuuuge factor in this for me. I have to sit down and block out time in my calendar for the things that really matter before someone else does! It also helps to schedule that time when I'm ready for it. I'm a morning person, so that's why I do creative things in the morning. 049: Burnout, Velvet Ropes, Oxygen Masks & Other Matchmaking Lessons with NICOLE HOLLAND
04/07/2017 Duration: 45minAnytime you're putting yourself out there, you're doing so to an audience. Even if that audience is just one person, you're still using your power of choice. You're picking your audience, your timing, your environment, your delivery method Today we get to talk with Nicole Holland who I know through the podcast scene together. She has a couple podcasts herself (Business Building Rockstars and Get Guest Ready) and her main squeeze is hooking podcasters up with really killer podcast guests. We talk a little bit about that today but mainly we're talking about why it is so gosh darned important to set up a velvet rope around your customer experience and why you need to put your own oxygen mask on first before putting yourself out there and crashing and burning. hard. This conversation applies to artists and business owners alike, so even if the business-y talk is a bit strange (because sometimes us business owners can sometimes go into a vocabulary bubble that doesn't always make sense to non-business-y folks) I'm

ps023: How to Break Free from the Worry Wheel

048: Real Artists Don't Starve - JEFF GOINS
27/06/2017 Duration: 50minToday we are joined by fellow artist and writer, Jeff Goins. He just came out with the book "Real Artists Don't Starve" and I loved it so much, I wanted him on the show to chat about all of it. As just a little bit of a background, Jeff wrote the national bestseller book called "The Art of Work" which I also loved and so I was really stoked to have this conversation with him. Today we're gonna chat about which parts of his new book didn't make the cut. We talk about how challenges always beckon new opportunities. We talk about the value on having constraints as a working and thriving creative. We talk about the differences between a starving artist and a thriving artist. AND we chat a little about the financial mindset required to become a thriving artist. Even if you don't classify yourself as an artist, this is gonna be a good episode for you to listen to because Jeff has some really valuable nuggets of wisdom to offer ALL of us today. With that, I give you Jeff Goins! Brave Take-Aways Your Brave Take-Away

047: Surviving Sexual Assault - We Are Not Mere Objects with SARAH JANE
20/06/2017 Duration: 44minToday we have the joy of speaking with Sarah Jane, an artist who knows a lot about holding space for people to be tender and brave. I know this to be true because of my own experience with her. Sarah Jane is currently on staff at the arts organization where I had a 6-week artist residency just after I had been diagnosed with my essential tremor. Those 6 weeks were really hard for me - in so many ways - and Sarah Jane (and the rest of the staff at the Grunewald Guild) did so much for not only my career, and artistic expression, but also my personhood. They gave me permission to not have things figured out all the way. Those 6-weeks held some of the beginning threads of this very podcast. So today Sarah Jane and I talk about all that. How do you know when to act after you've been in a season of waiting? How do you know when you're too tender to be brave and still safe? How do you bounce back from rejection? Today, I'm most excited about asking her all about her new project called Mere Objects, which is an colla
