Eight years after Massachusetts legalizes marijuana, the Cannabis Control Commission has unveiled three license types for the “social consumption” of marijuana. A hospitality license allows for stand alone lounges to consume on site, a supplemental license is for existing businesses to have adjoining space for consumption and a temporary license can be used for events that will permit smoking marijuana or ingesting cannabis products. The finalization of the cafes is still a ways off as regulations must be approved by the Legislature. A person of interest has been identified in the slaying of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. 26-year-old Luigi Mangione was arrested at a McDonald’s in Pennsylvania on gun charges and is being detained for questioning in relation to the NYC murder. Boston City Councilor Tania Fernandes Anderson was arrested last week on federal public corruption charges and is accused of taking a $7,000 kickback. According to the indictment, Fernandes-Anderson is charged with wire fraud, theft concerning programs receiving federal funds and forfeiture allegations. In the wake of the indictment, Boston City Councilors are exploring the possibility of establishing an ethics committee. In November Governor Maura Healey signed the Physician Pathway Act into law. The measure aims to help fill primary care physician shortages in the state by offering a pathway to licensure for internationally trained doctors.
