Short, sweet, solo episode this week.  I sit down with myself (With my baby daughter in the background!) to layout my plan for the season. It's pretty straightforward: Get a deer. But, like everything else, easier said than done.

The life and legacy of T.E. Lawrence. He was an intelligent, diplomatic and also a warrior who changed the Desert Campaign of World War 1.

  Summary: The mission of Veteranology is simple: Help veterans leaving active service experience healthy and fulfilling transitions into the civilian world. This is done by interviewing veterans who have found success in their new life outside of the military, individuals who have created service organizations and non-profits that serve the veteran community, and professionals deeply integrated into the backdrop of veteran life, such as doctors, lawyers, and case workers. Jay is a Marine Corps veteran from Illinois, currently living in Denver, CO.  He served with 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines as a machine gunner.  He left the service as a sergeant and attended Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, graduating with a BS in Economics.  A few months after graduating he led a project called Pax2Pax, a bicycle ride across the country in honor of Lance Corporal Johnny Strong, a marine who had been killed in Iraq on a patrol Knight was leading.  Knight’s team raised over $20,000 for charity.  He now hosts Veteran

This week on Neophyte in the Woods, I'm joined by Jim Lacefield.  Jim has served 23 years in the Army National Guard - 6 in the infantry and the remainder in logistics.  He began his service as an enlisted man, but was commissioned in 2005 and has achieved the rank of Major.  He has two deployments to Iraq between 2003 and 2004 and 2009 and 2010. Jim is, like myself, a later-life hunter - Beginning in the fall of 2012 when an army buddy asked if his son would like to join in on a pheasant hunt.  Soon after, Jim was being begged to start hunting! The rest is history. He bagged his first Whitetail in the fall of 2014 and first Gobbler in 2017.  In between, he harvested many squirrels and helped his son shoot his first deer, too!

Summary: Bryan Doerries is a Brooklyn-based writer, director, and translator, who currently serves as Artistic Director of Theater of War Productions. A self-described evangelist for classical literature and its relevance to our lives today, Doerries uses age-old approaches to help individuals and communities heal from trauma and loss. Doerries is a proud graduate of Kenyon College and serves as a board member of the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers and Friends of the Young Writers Workshop. Among his awards, Doerries has received an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from Kenyon College, and in March 2017, he was named Public Artist in Residence (PAIR) for the City of New York, a joint appointment with the New York City Department of Veterans’ Services and Department of Cultural Affairs. During this two-year residency, he will bring more than 60 Theater of War Productions projects to diverse communities across all five boroughs.

Finding and following the things you are passionate about and finding your new mission after service ends. SUMMARY: Ellsworth "Tony" Williams is a Combat Army Veteran, having faithfully and honorably served on active duty in the Army for over 24 years (8 enlisted and 16 Commissioned), including service during Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. He received numerous military awards including a Bronze Star and 3 Meritorious Service Medals (MSM). After he retired in 2007, he still wanted to continue to serve his fellow veterans, so he rebranded himself by getting a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Troy University.
