We'll be back next with the Ballad of Buster Scruggs, catch the newest Coen brothers film on Netflix and then give us a listen.

  • From Across The Border With Killian Hobbs: Sounds Like Liberty: Episode 36

    20/02/2019 Duration: 01h24min

In today's episode Nicky P & Lizzie examine We the People by A Tribe Called Quest. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vO2Su3erRIA This week in I Heard This Happened: Some Chiptune indie and jazzy jazz Jazz. Nicky is continuing his self-titled debut kick this week it’s Lisipi by Italian Jazz trio Lisipi. If I have to get into specifics, I particularly enjoy how varied the tracks are, it never buys into one style of jazz One of my favorite parts of Bandcamp is it brings me things like this. I can guarantee you I otherwise would have never heard this trio. https://lisipi.bandcamp.com/album/lisipi Twelve Months by Curious Quail is Liz’ pick this week . It’s sort of a concept album with each song being written in a month according to a random list of requirements. The result is an album that sounds a bit like Coldplay’s Chris Martin and Our Lady Peace collaborating on an album of Stephen Page’s pop songs. https://curiousquail.bandcamp.com/album/twelve-months Killian Hobbs is host of the podcast Coffee Sh

  • Brazil - The Last Nighters - Episode 59

    20/02/2019

A tribute episode to our friend Lewis Liberman to discuss one of his favorite films, Terry Gilliam's noir steampunk, "Brazil". It’s a movie about bureaucracy and totalitarian control with a populace of lobotomized passivity of consumerism. Mistaken identity due to a clerical error leads to government kidnapping and coverup intermixed with heroic dream sequences of saving himself from himself? Perhaps it's all in his head. And remember, information is prosperity. Don't suspect a friend. Report him. There's a “happy” version where he awakes from the nightmare with the woman he thought had died. In the director’s version discussed in this episode, the dream is the happy version in his lobotomized state of sitting in a chair with a grin as he finally escapes the horror of his world. The GoFundMe link for Lewis’s family can be reached at: http://www.lastnighters.com/lewis Next week we will dust off the 'ol super suits and get into the sequel of Disney Pixar's Incredibles by Brad Bird with Incredibles 2, now

  • The Law Ep 23, City of Castle Rock v Gonzalez (2005)

    14/02/2019 Duration: 29min

In this 7-2 decision, the U.S. Supreme Court let us all know that the police have no duty to protect you from crime. Of course they don’t. The criminal justice system is designed to punish people who commit crimes, not stop them from being committed. So protect yourself. Protect your family. Police are not designed to do it.

  • Taking The Piss Out Of Em With Alan Mosley: Sounds Like Liberty: Episode 35

    13/02/2019 Duration: 01h57min

In today's episode Nicky P & Lizzie examine Peace Train by Cat Stevens. Is this our first divided vote on SLL? http://bit.ly/2SrCBeY This week in I Heard This Happened: We have all the feels today with some melodic hardcore and something a little harder to define. Nicky picked self-titled debut Astronoid by Astronoid. I’m calling this rock because I’m honestly not sure what genre it is. It reminds me of pop-punk but is far too atmospheric to wear the label well. Somewhere between Four Year Strong, 30 Seconds To Mars and The Used smothered in Mew. I often say the best advice in music is more reverb and they heeded my advice unknowingly and I’m yet again proven absolutely correct. The album finds a nice pocket where it’s got an assaulting drum beat underneath a soupy wash of vocals and synths with occasional bits of guitar riff peaking out and I find it damn fabulous. https://blood-music.bandcamp.com/album/astronoid Lizzie’s pick is Hindsight by Hometown Losers. She doesn’t know genres, just feelings. T

    11/02/2019 Duration: 59min

We are joined by special guest, Alex Hay, to sing our way through the 2012 musical version of Victor Hugo's, "Les Miserables". • Blast Off! With Johnny Rocket Episode #32: Defender of Capitalism! (W/ Luke Ensor) from the Mises Caucus.

    08/02/2019 Duration: 01h01min

Show Summary: So just what is the Mises Caucus, and what is their mission here on earth? Well, this week we talk to a fellow defender of liberty, economic time traveler and vice chair of the Mises Caucus, Luke Ensor! Luke wants to promote Austrian economics into the party and to advocate applying the science of human action—praxeology—in Libertarian Party efforts to counter modern-day Statism, and bring justice to the galaxy! Well, so listen to one of the Defenders of Capitalism, Luke Ensor! About The Guest:  Luke Ensor grew up in a Republican household,  he saw politics as being important to what happens in life as opposed to sports. Luke had read Heritage and National Review for years; he was also a Romney primary voter in 2012 in PA when the only two choices were Romney and Ron Paul because (among other reasons) he was scared of Iran. Luke had his paradigm shattered with a YouTube trilogy called "Law Without Government",  Ensor then stumbled around before finding Larken Rose and the Mises Institute, and

  • Don’t you Dare Generalize Me With Eric Hailar : Sounds Like Liberty - Episode 34

    06/02/2019 Duration: 01h04min

In today's episode Nicky P & Lizzie examine You Don’t Own Me by Leslie Gore. Sure there are a few weak points, but it really is about personal liberty...right? http://bit.ly/2GngRd0 This week in I Heard This Happened: Moody pop from Akron and some Jazz(?) from the great northwest Nicky’s pick First Appearance by G.S. Schray is downright elegant and meanders through all sorts of sonic spaces. A literal cave of wonders in its ambient marvels. You could describe the sound by imagining that Vince Geraldi got way into 80s synth pop & started listening to The Sea & Cake and Indie movie scores exclusively. Every few measures bring some new musical idea to each track. It never sits in one place long enough to get stale & ebbs and flows with smooth instrumental and dynamic shifts constantly. http://gsschray.bandcamp.com/album/first-appearance Lizzie’s pick is Shakes by WA artist lissikeyj. The album is mostly instrumential. Think Boney James from the 90’s. The vocalist sounds eerily like Rufus Wa

  • Starship Troopers - The Last Nighters - Episode 57

    04/02/2019 Duration: 55min

A B-movie/war movie that is so over the top that it is actually an anti-war movie. Back when the left was dependably against war. Mike C. joins us again to do his part as we discuss one of his favorite movies. We also discuss how they acquired rights to Heinlein novel for the name and some characters, but is pretty much the opposite of the sentiment of the novel and was already written prior to said acquisition. In fact, the director couldn't even get through the novel. This may be one of the great troll jobs in film history. Join us next week as we sing our way through the Hugh Jackman version of Les Miserables.

  • The Law Ep 22, U.S. v. Lopez (1995).

    31/01/2019 Duration: 27min

In this 5-4 decision, the U.S. Supreme Court struck down the Gun Free School Zone Act of 1990 because mere possession of an inanimate object does not affect interstate commerce, even within a school zone. Four justices actually believed that it did. May God have mercy on our souls.
