Better This Than A Neocon With Tricia Stuart: Sounds Like Liberty - Episode 22
14/11/2018 Duration: 01h11sIn today's episode Nicky P & Lizzie examine Holy Wars...The Punishment Due by Megadeth classic. I think there is still some dispute over which angle it officially takes, anti religion or antiwar? Where did we end up? This week in I Heard This Happened: some dark progressive shoegaze and a little bit of Indonesian pop-punk. Nicky’s album this week is The Fall by SOM. I’m not sure why i’ve been on such an art rock kick but bandcamp never disappoints here. The album is way heavier than I consider shoegaze but its definitely droney as hell with super melodic airy vocals. Maybe even a spaced out version of Boy’s Night Out. It holds you in a dark soupy mess for the duration and makes you feel all sort of weird confused teenagery feelings. Don’t listen to if you need to adult that day. Lizzie brings us Congratulations, You’re Getting Old by Linger. A fun upbeat album that waffles between classic Weezer and Bracket. It’s not quite a 90’s pastiche but hits all the notes the old skate punk used to have while m

Ep 11, Roe v. Wade and the penumbra of privacy.
08/11/2018 Duration: 29minYou can be pro-choice, like me, and acknowledge the overt judicial activism and constitutional overreach of Roe v. Wade. This case is a classic example of the Supreme Court using its power to effect what it judged to be a desirable social change. To do so, it abandoned all pretense of constitutional interpretation and became a legislative body. Roe v. Wade https://supreme.justia.com/cases/federal/us/410/113/

An Angry Bee Gets Schooled With Jack V Lloyd: Sounds Like Liberty - Episode 21
07/11/2018 Duration: 01h16minIn today's episode Nicky P & Lizzie examine the Joni Mitchel classic, later re-popularized by Counting Crows, Big Yellow Taxi. Nick you may or may not know is a big fan of nature and listening to an economic illiterate try and throw shade at the wrong places may have gotten under his bonnet. This week in I Heard This Happened: some progressive instrumental rock with a dire message, a creative saxophone jazz offering and a bonus pop-punk offering from a previous feature. Nicky’s album this week is Fire By The Silos by Toska. If you’re a fan of progressive music and you aren’t on bandcamp at least weekly, you are doing life wrong. This is yet another killer find of mostly instrumental prog-rock. The title track which is the only track with lyric, can easily be taken as a support of a libertarian worldview paints a get-wrenching portrait of how central planning can destroy individuals, not just nations. Lizzie Brings us Becoming by Mammal Hands. After a difficult time finding an album to get into this

Ep 10, Flemming v. Nestor: The government lied to you about social security.
01/11/2018 Duration: 22minThere was never a trust fund. You have not been paying into a retirement program. Your FICA “contributions” are treated exactly like the income tax deducted from your paycheck. The money goes into the treasury with all the other money. Congress can alter or abolish your “benefits” and there is not a thing you can do about it. Sometimes it is hard to acknowledge that you’ve been duped. But most have.

Hope For The American Soul With Zama Rripa: Sounds Like Liberty - Episode 20
31/10/2018 Duration: 01h27minIn today's episode Nicky P & Lizzie examine the 90’s party banger Doo Wop (That Thing) by Lauryn Hill. We feel like this one is especially prescient considering al the hubbub Kanye has been getting in for his critiques of his culture. Nothing new if you ask us. This week in I Heard This Happened: pirate kids songs & more sad bastard music. Nicky’s album this week is Sea Songs For Little Pirates by Jason Andre. Perhaps a break with character since it’s usually Lizzie bringing the kid’s songs, but I this was a last minute saving grace find. There’s a claim it’s even educational but really we’re just in it for the Args. Lizzie per usual found us more of that sad bastard music she seems to love so much. Her choice this week is Ennui by Animal Sounds. While very in vein sonically this one does break character with the addition of some out of character bluesy guitar. This week's interview is with Zama Rripa a musician bringing the liberty, love and peace with his newest record American So
