It's Not Music Podcast

Matt and Will return to cook pies and talk trap on this episode of It's Not Music. As you would expect, the episode begins with Will making off-color jokes about Italians. It progresses into a discussion about this seminal pop song from 2015, particularly how adorable the chiptunes sounds that comprise the beat really are. This is all just an appetizer for the main course this week which will be a discussion of Farrah Abraham's My Teenage Dream Ended. It's one of the worst albums ever made, and Fetty looks like a zillion bucks on this track when compared to everyone's favorite underage mother.

It's Not Music returns with a special split-level episode of the podcast! Side A features special guest Casey Rocket describing why Trout Mask Replica is a sweet relief from the agony of everyday existence. Then on Side B, Will explains why this is the most unlistenable album ever recorded. Neither man is wrong!

Jesus Christ, Mraz brings out the Satanist in us this week as we lose our minds trying to decipher why this bullshit makes us so angry. We eventually decide that this music is a metaphor for a middle-aged hedge-fund manager's son having a stroke and randomly accessing the different sections of his uninteresting brain as everything shuts down. It's insanity this week on It's Not Music. And this really isn't music.

After dozens of threats over the years, Will finally pulls the trigger, but instead of a merciful bullet, Matt's ears are met with Mr. A.Z. Matt compares the man to Hitler before softening and admitting that people who enjoy him are "fine." Will spends most of the episode shamefully recounting his history with Mraz, eventually describing himself as a "recessive gene." It's a good one.

Michael Bolton- The One Thing by Matthew Amos

Before he became the king of Adult Contemporary Radio, Michael Bolton was an 80s rocker that rivaled Stan Bush in his ability to pump out slick, commercialized heavy metal workout jams. Matt enjoys Save Our Love but still finds the time to insult Bolton in dehumanizing fashion. Will advocates the Devil once again before the episode ends with a Japanese word that means "too little to spread." All that and more on this week's episode of It's Not Music!

And the Battle Begun was a huge departure for these Seal Beach ska veterans. With their 5th album, they incorporated heavy doses of prog rock and hardcore into their third wave ska sound. It's one of Will's favorite albums, and he doesn't care that it sounds like At the Drive-In. Matt enjoys the record thoroughly but still finds time to insult the lyrics and the people of Orange County. It all goes down on this episode of It's Not Music!

On this episode, Will reminisces fondly about a family road trip where he first realized his penis could be used for more than urination. Matt struggles with his bi-racial identity, and the line between personal bias and objective criticism blurs. Finally, the podcast concludes with Will revealing a shocking fact about his anatomy.

Confronted with a man just as angry and cynical as himself, Will was initially disgusted by Matt's pick for this week's episode. However, he eventually comes around on Father John Misty, finding pleasure in his witty takedowns of religious extremists, entertainment junkies, and assholes like us.

The boys get sad this week discussing Soccer Mommy and reflecting on the simp-est moments of their respective romantic careers. Will's co-dependent; Matt treats women like Indiana Jones talismans, all on this week's episode of It's Not Music!

This week we talk about Night Ripper by Girl Talk, Mr. Mash-Up, the voice of a generation. Matt argues that mash-ups are a valid form of artistic expression, but the concept isn't well-realized here. Will is disgusted by the entire proposition, no only when it comes to music, but in all art forms including mosaics and super-imposed photos. Don't forget, we're all MASH-UPS of our parents private parts!

On this episode of It's Not Music, Will drops BARS. He finds the song hilarious; Matt is not amused. Will's West London accent is on point. You don't wanna miss it!

This week on It’s Not Music, we figure some shit OUT! By bullying the perfectly nice Amaranthe, Matt discovers he’s horribly pretentious and ABSOLUTELY a misogynist. Will enjoys poking his finger at the poor band as well, but sees it more as “laughing at a kid falling off a bike” rather than an existential crisis that causes him to question his own morals. Even if you hate both of us and the show, you really should listen to this hilarious record, and comb over every minute of the podcast to cut out Matt’s disgusting comments and use them to prevent him from receiving future employment opportunities.

Silent waters is a traditional heavy metal song released in 2007 by Amorphis, a legendary band from Finland, the country with the most metal groups per capita. Matt is in love with the song, citing it as a rare example of pop-metal done right. Will loves the vocals and the solos and is okay with the rest. This week we talk about Business Casual, the 2010 full-length album from the leg-obsessed French-Canadian electro-funk duo Chromeo. Matt likes it, and uses this episode to show off his knowledge of the term diegetic. Will thinks it's "tight" but not as firmly-toned and heart-shaped as his favorite slice of retro cheesecake, Ice Choir's Designs in Rhythm. It's all on this week's episode of It's Not Music!

One Hand Clap is a track from a Bristol, UK duo named after perplexing Buddhist proverbs. On this episode, Will recounts his days in the Stockton, California dubstep scene, two-stepping, circle-pitting and hating Skrillex. Matt feels like an old man shooing pink-haired kids off his rock garden with a rake. It's all on this week's singles episode of It's Not Music!

This week we explore Until the Quiet Comes, Flying Lotus' full-length masterpiece from 2012. Matt dubs the music "full-watercolor." Will believes a song on the record perfectly captures his auditory experiences with DMT, but it's not on the track titled after the drug. All that and more, on this week's episode of It's Not Music!

To supplement our upcoming Flying Lotus full-length episode, we decided to peep a track off his great aunt's 1970 album Ptah, the El Daoud. Will wonders why jazz is so unpopular. Matt gets indignant when Will equates Hinduism with Buddhism. It's all on this week's episode of It's Not Music!
