Episode 092 - Long-time Island resident and nationally-known filmmaker Garrett Bennett sits down with Richard and Sal of Wake Up Bainbridge to talk the island locations featured in his films; what it was like growing up Bainbridge; how the Island has changed and our current less affordable climate. Garrett recalls the founding of Bainbridge Performing Arts from the old IGA at the current location of the The Plate & Pint to its current place as Bainbridge Island institution. He recounts his founding role and the unlikely events which led to the creation of the Annex Theatre which is still running today in Seattle. We talk Garrett’s movies and his current project a television series set on an island next unlike Bainbridge called Rockaway . We couldn’t cover everything so he is coming back. Probably a lot.

A motion was made and a vote was cast to delay the acceptance of the offer for 30 days and give Housing Resources Bainbridge a lifeline to save 550 Madison.

We took a short trip to the Bainbridge Island Historical Museum to take in the Fearless Music exhibition a wonderfully curated history of the 1980s to present garage band culture of Bainbridge teens that also is directly connected to some of the great rock, punk and grunge bands of our time. Soundgarden, Pearl Jam and Nirvana all had early and current members of these bands. But musical trendsetters like Mother Love Bone and Malfunkshun are also featured. New York Times bestselling author Jonathan Evison was once the singer in the band March of Crimes along with Soundgarden and long time island resident Ben Shepherd. But the big revelation was the soundtrack playing throughout the exhibit. I am a new fan of the excellent music of The Cleavers. The guest curator who deservives lots of props is professional museum curator Merilee Mostov.
