Progressive Voices

In today’s commentary, we talk about the need to update our constitution and its amendments to ensure that they are not just museum pieces, but living documents. A lot—make that virtually everything—has changed in the nearly 250 years since our Founders first put quill to parchment. Of course the fundamentals of human rights remain, but some aspects of our governance scream for revamping. The Electoral College and the way the Senate does business are two prime examples.
