Synopsis

Pride and Prejudice, published in 1813, is one of the most famous novels by the English writer Jane Austen. At the center of the plot there are Mr. and Mrs. Bennet and their five daughters: Jane, Elizabeth, Mary, Catherine e Lydia. Stated goal of Mrs. Bennet is to find, as soon as possible, a husband for one of her daughters. Therefore, the arrival of a rich bachelor (Mr. Bingley) will upset the quiet of the family life. But what is really at the center of the novel is the troubled relationship between Mr. Darcy, a friend of Mr. Bingley, and Elizabeth. Pride and Prejudice tells a unique love story that overcomes social divisions. Numerous are the film adaptations of the novel.



Jane Austen was born in Steventon, England, in 1775. Not much else is known other than she always lived with her family and that she never got married. After she died, her brothers destroyed most of her private letters, leaving very little biographical detail about her private life. Her novels are: Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, Mansfield Park, Emma, Northanger Abbey and Persuasion.
