In Rev. 2:12-17, we learn that the church at Pergamum had begun to compromise morally and theologically while living amongst a pagan culture. Jesus commends them for seeking to put down roots in an area in need of the Gospel but also calls upon them to repent, to war against the sin and compromise in the church, and to turn back to Him. 

We continue through the 7 Letters to the Churches with Jesus' letter to the church at Smyrna (Rev. 2:8-11). In this letter, Jesus encourages the suffering church at Smyrna by reminding them that he knows their tribulation and exhorting them to faithfully endure to the end because he is worth it all. 

Jeremy Dager from Mercy Hill Church preaches on Revelation 2:1-7 where Jesus calls out the church at Ephesus for abandoning Him, their first love. 

In the opening chapters of Revelation, John is relaying a vision of Jesus and the word He had for 7 churches in Asia Minor. Even though the letters of Jesus to the churches were recorded 2000 years ago, they are just as applicable today to each of us individually and to the American Church as a whole.
