The Pirate Set is a yearly fixture of this podcast.   Live from the Pirate Bar in Hydra (Greece), courtesy of Wendy, Takis, Zeus and Zara Bouchlas.. The Sun Set   As played on the 5th of July at the Sunset Bar Hydra..   Soulful and hopefully smooth chilled grooves most of them release in June 2013. The whole idea was to create the appropriate soundscape to accompany the sunset, which picture up above can even pretend to depict the true glory and purity of what we were seeing.. I had thought for months how and when to use the French accapella, finally I got the opportunity to use it to death! The sun sat at 1 hour 4 minutes at which time I dropped the sample (yet again) to Sean McCabe’s jam “Move”.. Nocturnes 3.0   Third and most probably last instalment of the Nocturnes series. Keeping up with the nightly vibe with some cheeky edits and my first original mash-up with “It’s You I Touch”. Best way I can describe the final set is as an attempt to blend Deep with Progressive house with a NYC undercurrent vibe. 2013 May "En Mai fais ce qu'il te plaît!" French Proverb which literally means " In May do what pleases you"..  Today is my birthday and I am stuck at home with a massive head cold.. Thought I would give myself a little present and put together a set JUST FOR ME...  A collection of deep, cookie, eclectic tunes, which I would hate to forget and lose in the dark recesses of my hard drive because they do not fit the strict format of Deep, Soulful, Progressive of this podcast. Nocturnes 2.0 ( first played and publish for www.djradio.com (UK) ) Second iteration of the “Nocturnes” series. It came about as a request from www.djradio.com [UK]. They contacted me for an exclusive second “Nocturnes” which as they mentioned could include a few surprise outside of the normal House genre. At the crossroads of Progressive House, Trance with a definite Indie flavour. I expect it might not be everyone’s cup of tea, with some lauding it and some hating it. March 2013 Light n’ Easy   Mixed on the fly at 30,000 ft on CX 134 bound for Hong Kong.   As the title alludes, easy listening Deep and Soulful set.   If I think about it, Light n’ Easy is my first real 2013 mix. I had let accumulated 26 hours of recently purchased tunes on my hard drive and the task of sieving through the sheer mass was daunting. With 8 and half hours spare flying to HK, I knew I had a chance to listen, categorize, rate, level all those tunes.. From there it was just a short step to open Traktor and let the set flow wherever the mood and tunes would take me.. Done on the fly, it is patchy but the result has unity and its own flavour. It is Light n’Easy.. Random Soul, Australian talent, is heavily promoted and they fully deserve the focus. Deeply Twisted Sexy Tribal Affair..   Have had this set on my HD since NYD.. It is the After Party Set.. If you have no idea what an after-party is,  it’s what happens when the main crowd has long gone home.. Whoever is left has somewhat survived the night, as for the DJ on the decks.. well same thing... After Party sets are different to main sets. They are ALL about the Beat & the Bass! Both the Beat & Bassline will (or won’t) bring the punters back to the Dance floor. Tunes do not need to be commercial (whoever is left is usually either f@cked up or really committed to Jack). Normally only tight crews are left, they were here to dance and sipped it to the last drop/beat.. The whole idea of an After Party set is to slowly but surely put the spark back in the eyes of whoever is left and not totally comatose.    Deep Aural Dope   In the midst of selecting funky banging tunes to get the structure of a NYD set, I urgently felt the need for something more intimate..    What Happened to that Sound? Indeed... whatever happened to that Sound? I was out recently and suffered through 3 hours of intense crap. Not crap because " it's not my kind of groove" but for it was low quality, repetitive pop music remixed using stems and patches we have heard millions of times. The pinacle was an elektro remix of ... Cindy Lauper's "Girls want to have fun".. All of the above prompted me to drop a simple, little set, which, if it were to be heard in a club, would be an intro set.. Before the main crowd piles in, before the first DJ "has to" get people moving.. An 11pm to 12pm set, at the time when balances are set, the acoustics of the room are tested, when the DJ hopefully listens to the crispness of his trebbles, makes sure the bass does not resonate etc.. Also the time for him to go on a little me-me-me and listen to tunes that may not have a sure main room immediate appeal but which potential needs to be assessed through the output of a good sound system. Transitions 1.0 Something different! With an overall darker mood yet on chilled side. At the congruence and confines of Deep & Progressive House, with some Tech & World Indie tunes I have gleamed and a very small dash of soft Trance.. After last summer, I was literally housed-out. Particularly, I felt I had done the “best” I could do with soulful house tunes and needed a break from it. Listening to something unexpected, tackling new sounds, purchasing tunes from artists unknown to me became the priority of the day.
