Twittering & Beyond With Jen Monroe: Sounds Like Liberty: Episode 44
17/04/2019 Duration: 01h07minToday we have a killer interview with Jen Monroe but first we take a closer look at the lyrics of that John Mayer song about schooling No Such Thing. Is there a liberty message under all that pop? http://bit.ly/2Zf7oLQ In I Heard This Happened: Nicky picked some psychedelic rock from the UK Mind Bahn by Jouis. Nicky’s Comments: I’m not sure if I should chill out or overthink myself into oblivion listening to these guys. Reminds me of The Stepkids if they were a little more prog and a little bit less funky. The album maintains a sweet shimmery optimism from start to finish. It’s a thoughtful companion to your day rain or shine. http://jouis.bandcamp.com/album/mind-bahn-2 I’ve got a sexy little number this week with Cobain & Cornbread from Seattle band The Black Tones. This record is Bluesy AF. The duo is basically a drummer and guitar player with vocals. Vocalist Eva Walker reminds me of Alabama Shakes Brittany Howard. You really don’t miss other instruments on the tracks that are just them. Other tra

The Thrilling Conclusion With Jeremiah Harding: Sounds Like Liberty: Episode 43
10/04/2019 Duration: 01h30minWe continue our conversation with Jeremiah Harding in Sounds Like Liberty: Episode 43 but first We analyze one of the Liz’ favorites More from the Dick Tracy Soundtrack. Does the song actually have anything to say? Can Nicky stomach listening to Madonna? http://bit.ly/2D97njc In I Heard This Happened: Nicky brings us Thoughts & Moments Vol. 1 Mixtape, another release from an artist that always brings the solid grooves Ady Suleiman. His Comments: ”I was super excited to see this new collection of songs come through my email. We pitched his album Memories abou a year ago. The album walks a fine line between classic and modern R&B. I hate to sound hack and parrot the consensus but when they say his sound is timeless, they’re not wrong. This is supposed to be a stopgap release to fill space until his next album. I wish all my favorite artists released material this consistent between releases. I’m still not clear on what a mixtape is though.” http://adysuleiman.bandcamp.com/album/thoughts-moments-vol-1

The Truman Show - The Last Nighters - Episode 66
08/04/2019 Duration: 01h02minWe pop into biosphere II in the Dark-City dome from the Hunger Games to battle it out with the socialist, Jim Carrey, as we discuss his 1998 film "The Truman Show" directed by Peter Weir. The movie is all about a utopian central-planner playing the role of a god (or a government for that matter) in the life of an unwitting subject of their hubris of control. There is plenty of philosophical meat to chew on in this one. We get into a wordy discussion with our returning guest Mike C. who admirably filled in for our other friend, Olof the Anarcho-Viking, who had a scheduling conflict arise recently. We will be sure to have him on for a movie discussion in the near future. Join us next week as we continue with our bold strategy and see it is pays off when we discuss Dodgeball with one of our new friends, Tyler. I’ve Been Told I’m Intense with Jeremiah Harding: Sounds Like Liberty: Episode 42
03/04/2019 Duration: 01h22minIn Sounds Like Liberty: Episode 42 we talk with Jeremiah Harding of the Weekly Hellscape, look at some new music and examine the NOFX song Bleeding Heart Disease to see if it’s really as commie sounding as Nick recalls. http://bit.ly/2I759UI In this week’s I Heard This Happened Nicky invokes a legacy with the Folk Ep Sleep Is My God EP by Spencer Tweedy. In case that name sounds familiar he does happen to be the son of Jeff Tweedy guitar player for Wilco. His Comments: Not to make it sound derivative right off the bat but it is in the best way possible. I’m not complaining about something that sounds like classic Wilco, hopefully it gets you to listen to it. There is an odd soundscaping to it I love that supports the more musical elements with tasteful juxtaposition. This thing sounds exactly how I imagine Tweedy’s sons album would sound. Both the songwriting & production are incredible. http://spencertweedy.bandcamp.com/album/sleep-is-my-god I picked a rocker from Nashville band Free Throw. What’s Pa

Behind the Curve - The Last Nighters - Episode 65
01/04/2019 Duration: 55minWe're about to get crazy with the cheeze-wiz. Where is the curvature? This old-world idea has been resurrected in recent years, even some NBA players had made claims to it...that the Earth is flat. In libertarian circles, it has been one more useful tool in the process of weeding out FB friends. The flat-earthers feel like they are the correct and they are a marginalized group on the edge of science that follows the Gandhi “first they laugh at you.” We shall discuss. Join us next week as we continue our series on flat-earth for our episode on “The Truman Show” with returning guest, Olof the Anarcho-Viking. Deadheads, The Whole Lot Of Ya with @carcampit: Sounds Like Liberty: Episode 41
27/03/2019 Duration: 01h29minIn Sounds Like Liberty: Episode 41 we talk with @Car Campit of the FAGcast. We’ll start with an analysis of I Fought the Law as performed by The Clash. Clearly we’re talking about crime and punishment, but where does it land on the scale? In I Heard This Happened, a long long awaited pick by Nicky: I Made a deal With Myself by Alex Evans. He waited months for this record to come out and totally missed it the week it did so we’re a little late to the party but it was well worth the anticipation. His Comments: The first track was a lil shakey for me but I bought the ticket and the ride was worth staying. The album reminds me of what Mayer Hawthorne did on A Strange Arrangement but with a more St. Paul & Broken Bones vibe. The production lands somewhere in between. The whole record is just a big homage to the Stax recording artists and god bless em, we could use more of that. https://alexisevans.bandcamp.com/album/ive-come-a-long-way I picked something more mellow for this episode Reign the Sky with Pho
