  • 238: Intuitive Eating is Not Anti Weight Loss

    16/02/2021 Duration: 11min

I recently shared this Instagram post: “I’m not anti weight loss. I’m anti the system of beliefs, corporations, businesses, health care providers and influencers telling you the pursuit of thinness should be your highest ambition in life.”   I do not judge you for wanting to lose weight. And I'm not anti weight loss altogether. But if you think this is going to be an episode encouraging you to pursue intentional weight loss and intuitive eating, keep listening...   As hard as it will absolutely be, you have to put aside intentional weight loss to fully be free to rediscover intuitive eating.   One of my favorite quotes from the Intuitive Eating book shares, “If you allow even one small hope to linger that a new and better diet might be lurking around the corner, it will prevent you from being free to rediscover Intuitive Eating.”   When someone tells you that you can practice mindful eating or IE or food freedom and lose weight, and even diet and lose weight (in the long term) they’re promising you something

  • 233: James Rose on the Intersection of Gender Identity and Eating Disorders

    29/01/2021 Duration: 47min

Today’s conversation is one of the most important episodes we have had on the show to date! I had the honor of having James Rose on the podcast to discuss the intersection of gender identity and eating disorders. Body dysmorphia and eating disorders are an extremely prevalent issue within the trans and non-binary community, yet it is so rarely discussed and further perpetuates the stereotype that only white, thin cis-gendered women struggle with eating disorders.   James Rose (they/them) is a non-binary New York City based actor, Health at Every Size Personal Trainer, trauma-informed yoga teacher, and co-host of the Full Soul Nutrition Podcast. They write about gender, eating disorder recovery, sex, their feelings, & their exes on their Instagram (@jamesissmiling) where they hope to leave the internet a little bit better than they found it.   In this episode we discuss:  James’ story and what led James to be passionate about acting, personal training, yoga and eating disorder recovery. • 232: 2020 Reflections + 2021 Intentions

    26/01/2021 Duration: 19min

I think we are ALL in agreement that we are so glad 2020 is over. Wow, what a year. In this episode I’ll give you my honest and raw reflections on 2020, and how I want to show up for myself, my family and my business in 2021.   2020 was a weird year for me. In so many ways I felt stuck inside (literally and figuratively), in my head. Questioning my choices. Numbing more than I am used to, particularly with social media and watching just about every show on Netflix and re-watching the Office and Parks and Rec too many times to count.  And I also had a good year in many ways, too. All the questioning and digging with myself about who I was and what my business stood for, finally paid off when I began to feel more CLEAR on who/what I am/do more than ever.   I think this year would have felt much, much shitter had I not consistently be experiencing such gratitude. Listen to today’s episode to learn what I felt so grateful for, how I feel going into 2021 and my word for 2021. I’m excited to be open and honest with

In this episode, Lauren shares the invisible corset is a set of culturally-inherited beliefs that make women as restricted and uncomfortable in their bodies as traditional corsets did. Wearing the invisible corset, women fear, dominate, disconnect, mechanize and coerce our bodies. When we get free, we not escape the generational cycle of female body hate, we also reconnect to the intuitive wisdom of our bodies.   In this episode we discuss:   Lauren’s healing journey and what inspired her to become a body connection coach Lauren’s journey to discover and realize that the invisible corset exists, and ways in which she was wearing it.
