We serve a God who is generous and dependable. The Bible reveals that giving generously is always God's habit. There’s a lot of confusion in the church (and in a culture that constantly criticizes the church) on the topic of judging others. Christians are generally accused of being highly judgmental towards others. But is this true? And are there times when we should judge, even strictly? Guest speaker, Tom Hall, delivers a very timely and effective message for the church today as he continues the current series from the book of Jonah. An alternate title for this sermon is "The Privilege of Repentance". The people of Nineveh in Jonah's time give us an example of what repentance should look like. Another word for repent is adjust, which adds another dimension to the meaning. Repentance is not always 180 degrees, but may be frequent small adjustments as we listen to God speaking. Pastor Marc Sharp continues the story of Jonah and how it relates to people today. God didn’t send a fish to destroy Jonah, but to save him. He had thumbed his nose in the face of God, and yet God rescued him from an impossible situation, through a miracle. Jonah is a mirror! We are all Jonah. Through impurity, self will, deceit, greed, impatience, hatred, and unforgiveness, we’ve thumbed our nose at God. But because of mercy, he provided a rescue - Jesus. Salvation belongs to the Lord! Pastor Marc Sharp's message today is about piling up stones...what? By the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Alabama is a simple pile of large granite stones on which is etched the Bible passage for today : “When your children shall ask you in the time to come, saying, What mean these stones? Then you shall tell them how you made it over.” A testimony of hard times and struggle. Testimonies are not free - they are costly, often coming through pain, persecution, trial, or warfare. But even so, God answers prayer, brings deliverance, and rains down mercy all the time.
